Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Facilities Operations and Construction Management
• The temporary Certificate of Occupancy for PAC Building J – Fine Arts Building has been issued by the City of San Antonio. The users have started moving into the building and the renovation of Building K is being scheduled.
• The City of Live Oak approved the final platting and zoning of the Northeast Lakeview Dairy Queen parking lot. The consultants are incorporating review comments and finalizing the construction documents.
• Meetings with the Port of San Antonio have been held to discuss review comments on the Southwest Campus Diesel Lab project.
• Meetings were held with consultants performing a facilities audit of San Jacinto Community College. ACCD is one of the peer group institutions. ACCD will receive a copy of the final report of the study.

Employee Services
• After review of proposals submitted and presentation to the Board, a contract was awarded for Group Basic Life to CIGNA and Group Long-Term Disability Insurance to Prudential Financial.
• New Faculty Orientation -- 50 attendees
• New Staff Orientation -- 7 attendees
• Conducted the 2007 District Convocation which was attended by approximately 750 faculty and staff.

Department of Public Safety
• During the week of August 22-28 DPS members responded to or generated 609 calls for service.
• DPS officers issued 61 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide as part of our crime prevention efforts.

Acquisitions and Materiel Management
• Congratulations are in order to Margie Regalado on completion of the Customer Service Certification program offered through the SAC ITIC. We continue to make good progress in this program as part of one of the Acquisition Unit’s process improvements projects.
• This past “Last Look” allowed Materiel Management to redistribute over 261 items with an estimated market value of $36,787.00. Our public auction began on Tuesday, August 28, with 127 lots up for sale.
• 107 student desks were delivered to the Westside Education and Training Center which enabled them to conduct classes on the second floor to accommodate an unexpected increase in students.

 

 

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Department of Student Financial Services has awarded $58,932,393 to 17,447 (unduplicated) students for 2007-2008.

During the month of August 2007, the Community Education Centers (CECs) provided a total of 3,010 services (financial aid, admissions, assessment, information, etc.) to 1,229 unduplicated individuals and prospective students. Of these students, 420 had no prior contact with the centers.

The Department of International Programs has notified two Northwest Vista College faculty members who have been selected to participate in the English Language Fellows Program. One is scheduled to teach in Belarus, the other in Mongolia. Final preparations are being made for their assignments.

Goal II. Student Support
The Student Leadership Institute continues to recruit for FY 07-08. The SLI class will be presenting at SPC convocation on Friday, August 24th. The district director is in the process of selecting and has interviewed SLI faculty for FY 08.

Goal III. Workforce Development
To date the Westside Education and Training Center has enrolled 1,356 students and the Central Texas Technology Center has enrolled 1,174 students.

The Alamo Community Colleges, Alamo WorkSource Board and BioMedSA have agreed to pursue funding for a Bio-Science National Center of Excellence in the Alamo region. ACC will be working with our partners, NSF, and Northwest Vista College to identify possible funding sources.

Two new Skill Development Fund grants totaling $1.4 million were submitted to the Texas Workforce Commission to train 450 Boeing employees and 678 Aerospace and Manufacturing workers.

Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The Office of Grants and Contracts submitted the final close-out documents for the UNICA 2, HUD grant and participated in the San Antonio Area Foundation Communication Meeting. Erick Akins was designated to attend the SAAF Scholar Committee Meeting on behalf of the Communication Committee.

Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations produced and distributed a press release announcing the appointment of Mr. James McLaughlin as Vice Chancellor for Administration, and a “Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase” ad was produced for print publications and for posting on the ACCD main web page. The information was provided by the Finance Department. The “Public Hearing on Tax Increase” agenda was posted on the main web page.
