Faculty Spotlight

NVC Librarians Renata Gibson, Nancy Kaida and Linda Reeves will present “On the Same Page:  Librarian/Faculty Collaboration” at the District 10 Texas Library Association annual conference to be held October 6, 2007 at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

NVC adjunct faculty Ruth Luna became certified as a Laughter Yoga Instructor in Dallas recently. Laughter Yoga is an exercise program using simulated or real laughter and gentle yoga breathing. It relieves stress, strengthens the immune system, controls blood pressure, and has many other benefits. It was developed in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical physician in India, and his wife Madhuri, a yoga instructor.  It is practiced in over 40 countries.

Dr. Ellen Marshall, professor in the department of Early Childhood Studies at San Antonio College, recently completed a year-long professional development project funded by the Overseas Schools Advisory Council - Office of Overseas Schools – U.S. Department of State. The program, called "Mano a Mano," was administered by the Association of American Schools of Central America, Colombia, Caribbean, and Mexico. Dr. Marshall co-directed the project with Dr. Cathy McAuliffe-Dickerson, formerly of SAC and now with Northwest Arkansas Community College. They worked with a group of 20 early childhood teachers representing 12 international schools and seven countries. The project equips early childhood teachers with:
• Current information for best practices in early childhood education
• Skills enabling them to make changes in their respective programs
• Skills to mentor other early childhood personnel
This was funded as a special merit project following the success of the first "Mano a Mano" project funded in 2004.
