Acquisitions and Administrative Services
• Trustees and Chancellor Bruce Leslie recognized Antonio Bravo, Pedro Constante and Paul Dunn, and gave them awards of appreciation “for courage shown during a high water rescue at St. Phillip’s College Southwest Campus on August 16, 2007.”
• On-line surplus property auction recouped $16,369.29.
Department of Public Safety
• During the week of September 19-25, Department of Public Safety (DPS) members responded to 771 calls for service.
• DPS officers issued 181 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide as part of our crime prevention efforts.
• On September 25, 2007, a DPS officer apprehended a subject in the process of burglarizing a student’s vehicle. On behalf of the student who desired to prosecute, DPS arrested the subject and after processing delivered him to the Magistrate’s Office for charging for Burglary of Vehicle.
Employee Services
• The Employment Unit participated in the Military Community Job Fair on Wednesday, September 19, 2007. More than 1000 applicants and 100 employers attended this event.
• The Benefits Unit conducted a New Hire Orientation for six attendees. Also, approximately 1,000 notices were mailed to employees participating in a TSA and/or ORP in regard to the new IRS 403(b) Regulations.
Facilities Operations and Construction Management
• The Palo Alto College (PAC) Capital Improvement Program (CIP) parking lots are substantially complete and faculty, staff and students have begun using the parking lots.
• A review meeting was held with the staff of the award winning San Antonio College Ranger to brief the reporters on the areas of responsibilities of facilities and especially the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects.
• Design work has started on the Mi CASA building project for San Antonio College (SAC).
Fiscal Affairs
• New FY 2008 Budget was made available on-line as of September 1, 2007.
• Initial payroll, which included Trustee approved Compensation Plan, was processed.
Information Technologies
• The Client Support/Multimedia Team developed a website to streamline communications for the Blackboard Vista Project. The website consists of the following elements: Purpose, Project Deliverables, Timelines, Information, News, and Updates, and Important links. The link to the site is: http:// www01. accd.edu/it/projects/ projects_cipbond.html.
• The District IT Multimedia Team is serving as backup to support web page updates in the absence of the District Web Master.
• Statistical data for the three 2007 fall semester drop dates was prepared for the Registration Improvement Team to analyze potential impacts on student retention and persistence.
Titan/Banner Projects Office
• George Grondin joined ACCD on September 24th as the Enterprise Systems Project Manager. He brings the project implementation team a substantial, long-term professional background in project management, I/T infrastructure, business applications support, and large information system implementation experience.
• Banner Project Coordinator completed meetings with all Campus Budget Officers to assess the possible need for updating Banner Finance Training Sessions. As a result, it was determined that a real need exists in continuing Banner Finance training and support after initial Banner Finance training. A plan of action will be developed to enhance and/or add new “refresher” training sessions based upon campus feedback through the budget officers and in conjunction with Acquisitions, Accounts Payable, Finance and Information Technologies.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Department of Financial Services has awarded $71,838,261 to 20,176 (unduplicated) students, and awarded 26 students the LULAC Parent-Child scholarship through the Department of Institutional Advancement.
During the month of September 2007, the Community Education Centers (CECs) provided a total of 2,500 services (financial aid, admissions, assessment, information, etc.) to 708 unduplicated individuals and prospective students. Of these students, 292 had no prior contact with the Centers.
Dr. Eduardo Conrado presented a performance-based budget for the creation of an international student recruitment program at ACCD to the Chancellor’s executive committee. The plan calls for ACCD to grow enrollments to over 800 students by 2012.
Goal II. Student Support
The Student Leadership Institute held their 2007 Leadership for Today’s World Summit at Palo Alto College on Saturday, September 22, 2007. The Summit was attended by over seventy students from the Alamo Community Colleges. Keynote speaker, Dr. Adelina Silva, District Director of Student and Community Program Development, presented Leadership: A Necessity for Today’s World and various breakout sessions were presented by invited community professionals/leaders.
Goal III. Workforce Development
The Westside Education and Training Center (WETC) and Central Texas Technology Center (CTTC) continue to experience significant growth. To date 702 students are enrolled in WETC and another 486 students are enrolled at the CTTC.
Dr. Federico Zaragoza was the keynote speaker at the Coca Cola – San Antonio Teacher Administration Association luncheon on September 27, 2007. Dr. Zaragoza’s remarks focused on the commitment of ACCD to continue to expand Alternative Teacher Certification programs in the critical need areas of Science, Math, ELS, and Special Education.
ACCD and Northwest Vista College are collaborating with the Alamo WorkSource Board and Bio-Med San Antonio to develop an NSF planning grant for clinical research technicians. In addition, ACCD, SAC, and SPC are working with area hospitals to develop a Department of Labor proposal to establish patient simulator labs at SAC and SPC.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The SOAR team prepared a Fall 2007 Census Date Enrollment Report and worked on the Workforce Education Program Review Measures.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations and the advertising agency selection committee have seen all the presentations from the advertising agency finalists. The committee made its recommendations and a subsequent meeting was scheduled with ad agency representatives.
The Department of Governmental and Public Relations held a television interview with KWEX-TV in response to the federal Dream Act, which would allow a two year college education or two years of military service as pre-requisite for immigrants to become legal residents and coordinated with the colleges on a voter registration drive held by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). Voter registration drives have been held at St. Philip’s College, San Antonio College, and Palo Alto College.
