| Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Acquisitions
• Acquisitions and Materiel Management had 100% participation in Employee Development Day activities. Congratulations to our employees for their loyalty and dedication.
• Inventory Control re-distributed 48 items to departments internal to the institutions during our recent “Last Look” which reflected an estimated savings to the District of $22,614.
• The on-line public auction is slated to run from October 17 – 26, 2007. The District Distribution Center is full to capacity, so there is a temporary hold on new pick-ups.
• Every effort will be made to ensure that the large Dell consolidated order items (expected to contain at least 2,000 parcels) are delivered as quickly as possible to departments before the holidays.
Department of Public Safety
• During the week of October 10-16, Department of Public Safety (DPS) members responded to 597 calls for service.
• DPS officers issued 115 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide as part of our crime prevention efforts.
• DPS officers provided 32 instances of Community Policing services such as safety escorts and participating in student orientations.
Employee Services
• The Benefits Unit conducted a New Hire Orientation for two attendees.
• The Training and Employee Development Unit facilitated the Alamo Leadership Academy for Success (ALAS) Kick-Off at the Omni Hotel attended by the 23 employees selected for the inaugural class. Information on the ALAS participants will be on the Employee Services/HR website http://www.accd.edu/ACCD/hr/hr.htm by October 26, 2007.
Facilities Operations and Construction Management
• Programming meetings were held with the users group to finalize the First Responders Academy Programming
• Design Development Review meetings were held with PBK Architecture to continue discussing the Judson “Early College High School” project at the Northeast Lakeview College.
• Project Review meetings were held with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station Energy Systems Lab to discuss the Phase II work on the District Wide Energy Conservation Measures project.
Information Technologies
• Aeon Technology Group presented to Mel. Indyk, Interim CIO and director of Information Technologies, and Arne Saustrup, manager of Network and Operation, information on highly technical issues and a number of challenges that will need to be overcome prior to final installation of the Telephone Upgrade (VoIP) Project.
• A selection committee was formed to begin the process of hiring an operational security manager to meet our current needs.
Titan/Banner Project Office
Continued progress with ACCD Banner Finance Remediation Plan including accomplishment of the following:
• Presented Banner Finance Refresher workshop to 12 San Antonio College department chairs on October 15th, based upon their written list of questions and concerns with day-to-day use of Banner Finance. The two-hour session received extremely positive feedback based upon:
• The open interaction for answers to regular department operation needs
• Distribution of “How-to” sheets for advanced end-user reference
• Hands-on show and tell for current Banner documents in question by those present
• Partnered participation of key Acquisitions personnel for core area knowledge and system support
• Identification of other challenges that will need further follow-up
• Initial research for issues related to grants proposal tracking, posting and billing procedures. Organization of key Grants stakeholders for clarification and prioritization of major challenges and pain factors needing resolution.
• Attended the Gartner 2007 IT Symposium in Orlando, Florida, "Choosing a Core Focus for Higher Education." Learned that issues currently facing community colleges include: 1) 24-hour student/employee IT support (i.e., iPods, internet video, etc.); 2) streamlining business processes to handle forthcoming student enrollment growth and service expectations; 3) responding to the need for high-content delivery of course management systems with from current market providers; 4) and strategic intervention to deal with higher than average faculty and staff turn-over rates of up to 50% that will impact delivery of services and quality.
• Most significant Internal Audit findings included the immediate setup of a new security level for each major entity (i.e. College and the establishment of “roles” defining the specific end-user HRIS screens that may be accessed based upon on specific job role and responsibilities). |

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Department of Student Financial Services has awarded $77,690,361 to 21,298 (unduplicated) students, and the Student Leadership Program has posted awards for 80 students for a total of $10,000.
The Department of Student and Community Program Development’s Eastside, Southside, and Westside Community Education Centers participated in TACRAO activities all week. They made college presentations and provided college information and materials at SAISD College Night, NEISD College Night, Private Schools College Night, East Central College Day, and College Fairs at Southwest, Southside, Harlandale ISD, and McCollum High Schools. Also, presented college information at Family Life Christian Church “Give Away and Family Restoration Day” and Bob and Jeanne Billa Adult Learning Center’s Annual Literacy Fair. Conducted financial aid and admissions workshops in the Edgewood ISD High Schools, Kennedy and Memorial.
The Department of Communications responded to 273 student requests for college catalogues and class schedules.
Goal II. Student Support
The Palo Alto College Natatorium hosted the High School Swimming League organizational meeting (15 schools attended). League swim meets start November 4th.
Goal III. Workforce Development
Dr. Robert Zeigler and Dr. Federico Zaragoza provided an update to the ACCD Board of Trustees on the progress of the Workforce and Academic Program Standards Committee and the results of the chancellor’s request for information from TEHCB listed licensing agencies.
The Westside Education and Training Center received the Alamo WorkSource award for Excellence Through Community Collaboration/Partnership and Mr. Rafael Brisita won an award for Workforce Professional of the Year on October 16 at the Pearl Brewery Stables.
Dr. Eduardo Conrado, Alamo Community Colleges' director of the Office of International Programs, and Veronica Murillo, director of community outreach at the Universidad Tecnologica de Coahuila, submitted the final report for a successful TIES – International Maquiladora Training, Internships, Exchanges and Scholarships project in northern Mexico. The report is available from the OIP upon request.
The National Council on Workforce Education published an article by Dr. Federico Zaragoza on the impact of the ACCD - DOL grant on Advanced Manufacturing Programs in the Alamo Region.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
The SOAR team submitted data to the following: Fiscal Affairs for Legislative Budget Board reporting; transfer rates by ethnicity to the Best Community College Committee; Vice-Chancellor of Administration on FTE, credit hours, contact hours, and employees by category; Retention Committee on retention data; and provided contact hour data to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Communications.
The SOAR team prepared a new enrollment report for the chancellor to reflect both CBM and August – December headcounts, provided technical assistance to the Chef's Creative Group on a Dining Survey that will be administered district-wide to faculty, staff, and students, and participated in a survey conducted by Maricopa Community College comparing various community college districts across the nation for identification of peer institutions.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
The Department of Communications prepared media press kits and contacted media regarding the Senator Frank Madla Scholarship fundraising event, “Photos of Hope and Remembrance”, held on October 17; updated the Main web page with news stories and photographs; and assisted Institutional Research with graphics for Baldridge PowerPoint presentation. |
