Real Estate remains the primary focus of the director of Acquisitions and Administrative Services with six to eight projects currently active.
The three Phase I “PIP” reports from this department have been completed and submitted for consideration by the Chancellor and the Board. Training in this area continues next week.
DPS officers issued 103 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide as part of our crime prevention efforts by making our community members aware of circumstances lending themselves to an opportunity for the loss of district and personal property.
HR Benefits Department prepared detailed Leave Of Absence spreadsheet for the purpose of tracking eligibility and history of all ACCD employees.
-Information Technologies
• Upgraded all 5 production PALS portals to Luminis 3.3.3.64 patch release and install Java runtime updates for new daylight savings time start.
• Finalized and transmitted 1098-T data for 2006 to the IRS.
• Developed report programs for the Legal Affairs Office (Open Records Request) on student directory information at Northwest Vista College and Palo Alto College, on Chemistry course enrollments, and on San Antonio College grade distribution for Fall 2006.
• Conducted a 2-day SAS Web Report Studio Training/Workshop for the Finance staff.
-Titan/Banner Projects
• Prepared an estimated FY 2008 budget for Titan/Banner project and proposed organization structure.
• Prepared and distributed meeting notes from Financial Aid team’s 4/2 weekly team meeting to all attendees. Will establish an area on a network drive that all team members can access to retain notes for these and other critical project papers.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Central American States for Scholarship (CASS) rural teachers have each put in at least 50 hours of volunteer service at the Southwest School of Arts and Crafts, San Antonio Children’s Museum, and the St. Peter and St. John’s Children’s Home. They will also begin volunteering at the San Antonio Library Association this week. Later this week, the rural teachers will be both participants and presenters at the annual San Antonio Area Bilingual Educators’ Conference.
The ACCD is considering participation in a “Troika” study abroad program sponsored by Community Colleges for International Development (CCID). This program offers a study abroad tour to Guatemala, led in 2008 by Tomkins-Courtland Community College (NY) and Roane State Community College (TN). The program is currently under review by the Office of International Programs to determine whether it complies with rules of both the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board rules and SACS.
Goal II. Student Success
A district-wide meeting of the Distance Learning Coordinators from the ACCD colleges was held with representatives from Excelsior College to dialogue possible articulation agreements.
The SOAR team continues to work on the Chancellor’s Key Performance Priorities related to annexation, recruitment (student recruitment/capacity model), retention and completion (alignment to Achieving the Dream targets), metrics, and planning and budgeting.
Goal III. Workforce Development
The Central Texas Technology Center (CTTC) is obtaining Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) test site certification. MSSC site capability will allow students to pursue a nationally recognized production technician certification in manufacturing. The CTTC is also pursuing additional testing and certification capabilities for manufacturing and other trade areas and will soon seek certification from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
There are 97 individuals on a waiting list pending eligibility to participate in the DOL production worker program at the Westside Education Training Center (WETC). WETC enrollment to date totals 807 students.
Plans are underway to offer a Global Education Leadership Institute 2007 in November for college presidents and corporate CEOs on global competitiveness in the workforce. In addition, a National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers National Conference 2007 is planned from October 3 to 6 and will focus on technological advancements and driver industries as it relates to higher education. Both conferences are being coordinated by the Professional, Technical, and Workforce Education (PTWE) division and will be held in San Antonio.
As part of the ACCD Nursing Task Force initiative, the PTWE staff met with appropriate program deans to review current hiring practices for nursing faculty at St. Phillip’s College and San Antonio College in order to develop recommendations to recruit additional nursing faculty.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Approximately 2,000 invitations were produced and printed for the Construction Design Exposition to be held April 19 at the Depot at Sunset Station, 1174 E. Commerce. The “Delivering the Dream-Alamo Community Colleges Design Exposition” will feature exhibits of the construction projects approved by voters in the bond referendum of November 2005. It is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The exposition will allow the public to view the designs of various buildings at the colleges, and will demonstrate that we are on time, on target, and on budget and fulfilling our promise in our Capital Improvement Program. Mr. Tom C. Frost and Mr. B. J. “Red” McCombs are Honorary Co-Chairpersons of this event.
Goal V. Organizational Communications
A draft is in progress for the first monthly issue of The Community Catalyst, a new communiqué from the Office of Institutional Advancement that will be sent to the ACCD Board of Trustees, ACCD Foundation, Board of Directors, Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, and each ACCD college president.
Preparations are underway to send a mass email to 66,000 persons who read the San Antonio Express-News online to promote summer and fall registration.
