Goal
II. Student Success
The Department of Institutional Advancement completed a preliminary Board Policy on Naming of ACCD facilities. The draft policy was discussed at the Chancellor’s Executive Committee meeting on April 23, 2007 and will be forwarded to the Chancellor for future consideration. Roland DuBay is also working with Jim Lanier and the Association of Governing Boards to finalize details on the training to be provided on May 18th & 19th for the ACCD Board of Trustees, ACCD Foundation Board of Directors, the chancellor, vice chancellors, college presidents and district institutional advancement staff in preparation for a major gifts campaign.
The SPC Learning Disabilities Specialist is working with the Web Site Accessibility Policy Committee to review and update policies and procedures reflecting current case laws. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was passed in 2006 to ensure that all communication modalities are accessible to all citizens including telephone, media, web sites, closed captioning, textbooks, etc. The SPC committee has taken the lead in the District to ensure that our web site and our distance education courses are completely accessible. SPC will host: The Role of Disabilities Services in Accommodating Students On-Line Webinar on, Tuesday, May 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Webinar will be presented by Jane Jarrow, nationally known professional and advocate for individuals with disabilities and former President of the Association of Higher Education and Disabilities.

III. Workforce Development
Dr. Robert Zeigler and Dr. Federico Zaragoza met with the superintendent of SAISD, Dr. Robert Duron, to discuss the possibility of a “SAC- Early College Cultural Academy”. The concept has generated much interest from the Ford Foundation, Alameda Theater, and Alameda Museum representatives. Dr. Duron expressed interest in participating in the project and will be touring the Alameda Theater and Museum in May.
The Department of Professional, Technical, and Workforce Education is planning a Global Workforce Education Leadership Seminar for Latin American Universities and Technical Colleges. The Seminar was requested by Mexican TIES Partners and reflects the growing importance of Workforce Education in developing countries. The Seminar is planned for November 8-9, 2007.
Goal III. Workforce Development
Dr. Eduardo Conrado, director of the Department of International Programs, met with representatives of city government, private industry and chambers of commerce from Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros and Reynosa, Mexico to discuss possible future collaboration on projects involving urban planning and construction. Dr. Zaragoza and Emil Moncivais (Director of the City of San Antonio Planning Department) also participated in the meetings. In addition, Dr. Conrado is currently attending the 11th Annual North American Higher Education Conference in Quebec City, Canada.
Dr. Dan Derrico spent the last week here at ACCD working with the budget development team and the district directors on various initiatives. We are extremely pleased that he has agreed to work with ACCD in a consulting capacity until the Vice Chancellor for Administration position is filled.
This week Dr. Leslie made presentations on the Alamo Community Colleges Performance Management System to NLC, SAC, District, and PAC faculty and staff. Presentations to SPC and NVC will be made in early May. The purpose of the presentation is to ensure that all employees are familiar with the Baldrige initiative and the ACCD strategic plan. The presentations have been well-attended; we have received valuable input and many positive comments about holding these meetings and providing details about the strategic planning process. Follow-up presentations will be made every semester.

V. Organizational Communication
Board Chairman Zárate and Dr. Leslie made a presentation to the House Higher Education Committee regarding the Pathways bill last week and on Monday, April 23rd, Mr. McClendon joined Dr. Leslie at the presentation of the bill to the Senate Higher Education Committee. The bill is moving forward with the help of Vilma Luna.
Dr. Leslie was elected as a new member of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board.
We have an increasing number of events and activities district-wide and are taking the opportunity to showcase such events on channel 98. This section of the Chancellor’s Weekly Report will now provide a schedule of the programming for our regularly scheduled times of 12 – 2 pm on Saturday and 9 – 11 am on Sunday. Programming varies due to the timing of Board and committee meetings, ground breaking ceremonies, etc. The programming for the coming weekend is as follows:
