| Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Department of Public Safety
• During the week of January 16-22, Department of Public Safety (DPS) members responded to or generated 622 calls for service. These include:
• DPS officers responded to 5 instances of emergency call box notifications.
• DPS officers conducted 15 instances of emergency call box testing.
• DPS officers conducted 214 instances of building/facilities security walk throughs.
• DPS officers responded to 7 instances of assistance with sick/injured persons.
• DPS officers responded to and investigated several vehicle burglaries at San Antonio College. First responding officers were able to develop follow up information which was utilized by DPS Investigators who in turn were able to make a partial recovery of stolen property and develop a suspect. The investigation continues.
• DPS officers issued 88 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide as part of our crime prevention efforts through making our community members aware of circumstances lending themselves to an opportunity for the loss of district and personal property.
• DPS officers provided 63 instances of Community Policing services such as safety escorts, participating in student/employee orientations to our community.
Facilities
• Kickoff meetings to update the San Antonio College (SAC) Master Plan, to prepare the First Responders Academy Master Plan, and to prepare the First Responders Academy Phase I construction documents were held on January 17.
• A Fuel Card Program implementation coordination meeting was held on January 16 with Facilities, Fiscal Affairs, and Acquisitions to develop final details of the Fuel Card Program.
• A Capital Improvement Meeting Phase II projects design review meeting was held on January 15 to discuss the status of the renovation projects at SAC, St. Philip’s College (SPC) and Palo Alto College (PAC).
Fiscal Affairs
• The Treasurer services area mailed out 12,820 Financial Aid/Refund checks to students.
• The Chief Bursar, accompanied by additional finance staff, met with SPC senior staff to address questions and concerns they have/had regarding grants, contracts, student billings/payments and contact hour reimbursement. The chief bursar will be working with the SPC senior staff documenting the procedures agreed upon for the completion of grants and contracts. The goal is to put in place a procedure for all colleges to follow that will support or enhance the ability to receive contact hours reimbursement for grants and contract courses.
• The controller and accounting operations manager, along with the director and associate director of Student Financial Services, participated in a conference call with the controller from South Texas Community College in McAllen and members of her staff regarding various processes and procedures used in the administration of student financial aid, emergency loans and the installment payment plan programs.
Information Technologies
• ACCD Information Technologies (IT) is currently in the process of enabling the user telephone directory function that is tightly integrated with the email global address list. The new function will be available at the end of February 2008.
• ACCD IT End User Programmers have developed an electronic workflow application to announce emergency and non-emergency employee separations. This electronic workflow process will electronically alert all the critical system administrators. The system includes request tracking and email notification features. The system is currently under review by Legal Affairs and Employee Services. Upon completion, the system is expected to go live within the next month.
• The Network & Operations Team completed initial network linkage for PAC’s Veterinary Technology Building and for SAC’s new Parking Garage for the start of spring classes. Also completed was the network extension SPC’s CIS Department network to the Applied Science Building to support the CIS Department Faculty relocation to the Applied Science Building.
• Operational testing of the Houston St. Building motor generator is complete. This generator is now operational and provides extended power protection to the main Houston St. Data Center.

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Department of Financial Services has awarded $89,669,543 to 25,691 (unduplicated) students for 2007-2008.
The Department of Communications mailed out 560 class schedules and catalogs to students upon request.
Outreach services were provided at Positive Solutions, Seton Home for Girls, Harlandale ISD schools (elementary schools), and financial aid processing and assistance was provided to San Antonio Water Systems (SAWS) employees.
Goal II. Student Support
CECs conducted Admissions and Financial Aid Workshops at Kennedy, Memorial, Holmes, Jay, Jefferson, Harlandale, and South San High Schools.
Goal III. Workforce Development
The ATC hosted several business specialized training programs including CISCO Networking class for PAC, professional development workshops for Standard Aero and Wilson Industries Safety class for SAC. In addition the ATC was used to deliver the City of San Antonio Project Management class for SPC and the High Performing Leadership/Team seminar for Edgewood ISD. Approximately 150 persons participated in the ATC events.
Dr. Federico Zaragoza, Dr. John Soto, Brad Hunt, and Belkiss Rodriguez conducted a three day Workforce Certification and Organizational Development Seminar for the National SER Jobs For Progress Corporate staff in Dallas Texas. The workshop was delivered under contract and rated exceptional by the participants. National SER is considering replicating the training for all of its national affiliates and over 1,000 employees.
Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Planning continues for the ACCD district wide Young Leaders Conference to be held on Saturday, February 23 targeting 500 high school juniors and seniors.
International Program’s Mark Hagen is completing preparations for a group of Peruvian students who will be participating in the Youth Leaders Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The students will be in San Antonio during the second week of February. Some of the students will be traveling to other cities in Texas for internship and educational opportunities, while two remain in SA for an internship in bicycle and pedestrian safety.
Goal V. Organizational Communication
Leo Zuniga and Dr. Leslie traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with the Bexar County
Congressional delegation and promote ACCD’s federally supported program priorities. Visits
were well received and program priorities were viewed as innovative ideas that provide solutions
to problems often discussed.
The Department of Communications, in collaboration with the Acquisitions department, completed the request for proposal for advertising agencies' services. Completed RFP’s are due at ACCD by February 7, 2008. |
