Workshops and master classes with West African musician-educator Adolphe Yacé, who is currently in the US on a Fulbright fellowship. Director of the Institut National Supérior des Arts et de l'Action Culturelle (INSAAC) in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, Yacé is a multi-instrumentalist and vocal/instrumental arranger best known for combining traditional cultural practices with contemporary musical idioms, including African-jazz fusions. Matinee performance of Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre of New Zealand
Location: Carver Center. This performance tells the story of the migration of the Maori from their ancestral homeland of Kawaiki to New Zealand. Plenty of audience participation, and a question/answer session will take place at the conclusion. A presentation of vibrant traditional dance and music dating back to 900 A.D. Free to NVC students.
