Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
Acquisitions, Materiel Management and Print Services
Our most recent internal “Last Look” property review was held the week of January 22 - 25, 2008. We welcomed 50 visitors from all campuses and redistributed 110 items. By re-issuing items in good, usable condition to departments that have a need for them, ACCD’s cost savings is estimated to be $60,846.
• The District Distribution Center is set up for our latest Lemons Auction with 114 lots for sale. The auction is open to the public and is being held from February 5 – 15, 2008.

Banner Projects Office
• The RFP Grants Evaluation Committee met to discuss proposals submitted for the implementation of the full Grants Module in the Banner Research Accounting system. Full implementation of the Grants Module includes Pre-Award Proposals functionality, Events Tracking, and Grants Billing & Accounts Receivable. Based on final scores, a vendor has been recommended and forwarded to administration for approval and ultimate ACCD Board authorization at the next scheduled Board meeting.
• A monthly update and status report was forwarded to the Banner Project Stakeholders who last met in November 2007. The next stakeholders’ meeting is scheduled for February 29, 2008.
• Al LePage developed and distributed a 19-page document describing in detail all aspects of Banner Finance security controls and how they are applied at ACCD. This document has been distributed to key people in Fiscal Affairs, Internal Audit and IT.
• The Banner Projects Office developed a fact sheet describing an overview of our enterprise-wide project office and the benefits and goals of Banner implementation. 

Department of Public Safety
• During the week beginning January 30 and ending February 5, Department of Public Safety (DPS) members responded to or generated 515 calls for service. These include:
o DPS officers responded to 2 instances of emergency call box notifications.
o DPS officers conducted 2 instances of emergency call box testing.
o DPS officers conducted 193 instances of building/facilities security walk throughs.
o DPS officers responded to 13 instances of assistance with sick/injured persons.
o DPS officers responded to 37 instances of public assistance calls.
• DPS officers issued 36 Crime Prevention Reminders district wide as part of our crime prevention efforts through making our community members aware of circumstances lending themselves to an opportunity for the loss of district and personal property.
• DPS officers provided 33 instances of Community Policing services such as safety escorts, participating in student/employee orientations to our community.

Employee Services
The Department of Employee Services processes numerous transactions on a daily basis and the following examples are reflective of the number handled to date:
o EEOCs: 22
o Grievances: 10
o Management Advisory Sessions: 862
o Exit Interviews: 29
o Advertisements: 302
o Employment Verifications: 329
o Contracts generated: 3,832

Facilities
• Meetings were held with VIA Metropolitan Transit to discuss VIA bus service for the new Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) campus under construction. The NLC campus is located in Universal City and Live Oak. Both of these cities are not in the VIA service area. A variety of alternatives to address providing VIA bus service are being explored. VIA is planning a new route that would connect to the Randolph Park and Ride Multimodal Transportation Center from the current nearest bus stop approximately one mile away from the campus site.
• Meetings were held to evaluate the information needed about campus buildings and rooms for the upcoming Capital Campaign. This includes preparing a list of all existing buildings and all buildings under construction with a room count for each building.
• Meetings were held with San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) to discuss partnerships with ACCD involving two neighborhood schools.

Information Technologies
• The Finance and Personnel Team supported the Finance Office with the processing of the 1098-T’s for all colleges. They also developed five new and revised eight existing reports related to Banner Finance security and approvals, per Fiscal Affairs.
• The Applications and Systems Team worked with the Legal Affairs Office to establish parameters for producing student data that is to be used for planned various college campus Facilities Master Plans. As required, all external requests should be forwarded to Legal Affairs for their review.


 

 

Goal I. Access To Higher Education
The Department of Financial Services has awarded $90,829,351 to 26,040 (unduplicated) students for 2007-2008.

The Student and Community Program Development team coordinated the ACCD presence at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo at the Department of Agriculture ACCD Booth, January 30-February 17, 2008.

The Community Education Center personnel continue to assist Connections and have provided outreach services to Southwest, South San, Harlandale, Frank Tejeda Academy, and Christian Academy of San Antonio.

ACCD helped welcome 10 youth leaders and two mentors from Peru. The ACCD, Our Lady of the Lake University and the University of Texas at San Antonio, are supporting the Youth Leaders Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by Partners of the Americas. The youth leaders will be in Texas for the remainder of February, building their leadership skills and developing an action plan for a community project upon their return to Peru.

Goal II. Student Support
The Community Education Center Coordinators have scheduled a meeting with Financial Aid personnel to discuss the processing of financial aid applications for undocumented students.

CASS (Cooperative Association of States for Scholarship) teachers participated in their first educational leadership class with Manuel Ornelas, president of the San Antonio Area Bilingual Educators Association (SAAABE). The class serves as an orientation for their professional participation in SAAABE activities and conferences, both as participants and presenters.

Goal III. Workforce Development
The A.D.N. program at SAC completed its site visit from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission on Feb. 7, 2008. At the exit meeting, the visitors reported they would be recommending full accreditation until 2016. This is the longest span of time for accreditation which is 8 years. In the report, the site visit team has noted no need for improvement, no weaknesses, and 5 areas of strengths including the achievement of exemplary status uninterrupted since 1997.

The Alamo Community College Rackspace Team met to discuss the company preliminary results from the occupational and training needs assessment. The preliminary plans are for Alamo Community College to provide training opportunities for up to 5,000 Rackspace employees over a four year period. A Skill Development Training Grant of approximately $4 million will be awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Dr. Federico Zaragoza and Dr. Lu Pelayo presented an overview of the Alamo Community Colleges Bio-Science Programs at the Alamo Region Bio-Med Cluster Committee meeting held at the Genzyme Corporation on February 14, 2008. Approximately 35 representatives from area hospitals, bio-med research and development companies attended the meeting.

Goal IV. Capacity to Serve
SOAR provided data to the Vice Chancellor for Administration on the Sections that start between 2 and 5 pm for Fall 2007. These data will be used to determine if tuition discounts for students taking classes in this time frame should be applied. Soar has also provided data on FTIC by residency status to the Vice Chancellor for Administration. These data will be used in 2008-09 budget development considerations.

Goal V. Organizational Communication
The PAC Natatorium hosted the U.I.L. Region VII-4A Swimming and Diving Championships. 218 athletes from 19 high schools participated. 42 athletes qualified for the U.I.L. State meet to be held Feb. 22-23.

The Department of Communications prepared legislative issues briefing materials for use by ACCD leadership during visit to Washington D.C. February 11-13, 2008; attended American Association of Community Colleges/Association of Community College Trustees National Legislative Summit with Chancellor Dr. Bruce Leslie and ACCD Trustees Roberto Zarate, Dr. Gene Sprague, Denver McClendon, Gary Beitzel and Jim Rindfuss to present federal legislative priorities to Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Senator John Cornyn and Congressman Ciro Rodriguez; designed and produced a full color, spring enrollment ad that ran in the Express-News and La Prensa on Sunday, February 10 highlighting our record spring enrollment of 65,677 students, including credit, Continuing Education and Workforce students.
