SPC Students, Faculty Add to Flavor of Asian Festival

Students and faculty from Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts participated in the Asian Festival at the Institute of Texan Cultures. Also, the THCA Department hosted the Chaine des Rotisseurs competition at St. Philip’s College. Three St. Philip’s College students won awards.

SPC Culinary Arts Program Earns Kudos from Accreditation Team

The American Culinary Federation Accreditation team visited St. Philip’s College this week and had wonderful things to say about this exemplary program.  The Site Visit team reported to the department and to the administration that the Culinary Arts Program was in full compliance in all assessment areas.  In addition, the team reported that SPC Culinary students are interested in furthering their education with a baccalaureate degree and because of our excellent track record, encouraged the college to pursue the development of a four-year program.  This effort is in process.

SPC Faculty Gear Up for Road to Success Conference

Representatives from the St. Philip's College Multi-Modal Transportation and Automotive Technology Departments presented at the San Antonio Education Partnership Road to Success 2008 Conference at our Lady of the Lake University. Over 800 students from area high schools attended.

SPC Student Makes Debut with Symphony

St. Philip’s College Fine Arts student Lillie Gonzalez made her San Antonio Symphony debut by performing at three student concerts during the week-long Symphony-in-Residence Program. For one week each year, St. Philip's College hosts the San Antonio Symphony for a residency program in which the Symphony performs a series of concerts for the College and the community. The 20th anniversary of this collaborative effort culminated in a finale performance on Saturday, February 23.

Loston Addresses Episcopal Diocese of West Texas

On behalf of St. Philip’s College and St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Dr. Adena Williams Loston delivered a speech at the 104th Council Meeting of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas at Municipal Auditorium. Her presentation included an historical overview explaining how the College was founded by the Church on March 1, 1898 and that St. Philip’s College will celebrate its 110th anniversary on March 1, 2008. After the presentation, Bishop Gary Lillibridge announced that the Diocese was establishing another scholarship fund to further support student success at St. Philip’s College. More than 1,000 clergy and laypersons attended the conference.
