Employee Services Improves, Streamlines Processes

The Personnel Action Request (PAR) Team held its first meeting to streamline processing and move toward electronic processing. Also, effective April 1, 2008, processing of W4's was transferred from Payroll to Employee Services. The Payroll and Employee Services Transition Team will meet every 5th of the month to discuss changes to improve information sharing with employees and to streamline all processes.

Fuel Card Program Begins

Fuel Card: Effective April 1, 2008, the pilot fuel card program will be started. The authorized user training program for 110 drivers was completed March 11-13, 2008.

Draft Plan Developed for First Responders Academy

On March 26, 2008, a Master Plan Meeting was held with the master plan user group, where the consultant Marmon Mok presented the draft plan they have developed to date. A second session addressing site development was also held.


Hampton Named SMWBE Diversity Administrator

Lacy Hampton has been named the new Small, Minority, Women-Owned Business Enterprise Diversity Administrator for the Alamo Community Colleges’ Facilities Department. He began his duties on March 25.

Hampton is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas. He holds a M.B.A. from the St. Mary’s University and a M.A. in Public Administration from Webster University.

He worked for the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) for the last three years as the Assistant Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Coordinator/Procard Compliance Officer. Prior to working at UTSA, Hampton served as the Supplier Diversity Coordinator with CPS Energy for over three and half years in their Small Business Development Office.

Student Leadership Institute Graduates 70

The Alamo Community Colleges Student Leadership Institute celebrated their 7th annual graduating class with a commencement ceremony on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the St. Philip’s College Watson Fine Arts Center. The graduating class was comprised of 70 students from San Antonio College, St. Philip’s College, Palo Alto College, and Northwest Vista College. With the graduating class of 2008, the Student Leadership Institute has provided organizational skills, communication skills, and leadership skills for a total of 560 students of the Alamo Community Colleges.

The Alamo Community Colleges on Cable TV

We have an increasing number of events and activities district-wide and are taking the opportunity to showcase such events on Time Warner Cable channel 98 and Grande cable channel 21. This section of the Chancellor’s Weekly Report provides a schedule of the programming for our regularly scheduled times of 12 – 2 pm on Saturday and 9 – 11 am on Sunday. Programming varies due to the timing of Board and committee meetings, groundbreaking ceremonies, etc. The programming for the coming weekend is as follows:

Saturday, 4/19, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Regular Board Meeting of April 15, 2008 and Audit, Budget and Finance Committee Meeting of April 15, 2008

Sunday, 4/20, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
