PAC Professor Accepted for Fulbright Program

Karen Mahaffy, assistant professor of art, was awarded a 2008-2009 Fulbright Grant for Lecture/Research in Estonia during Spring 2009. Mahaffy was invited by the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn to lecture within its Interdisciplinary Program. The Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year.

Former Student Hosts Art Exhibit on Campus

San Antonio artist Ben Mata is showcasing an exhibit entitled “Ben Mata: Recent Works” in PAC’s Gallery100 through May 2. Mata was an art student at PAC from 1993-1996 and was the recipient of a Fine Arts Scholarship and the winner of PAC’s 10th Anniversary Poster Contest. Mata continued his education at Southwest Texas State University and his many artistic achievements include being a part of the UTSA permanent collection, and exhibitions in venues such as the Blue Star Contemporary Arts; Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center; the Art House Gallery in Houston; and the Martinez Gallery in Troy, N.Y.

Business Management Advisory Committee Meets

Veronica Rosas-Tatum convened a Business Management Advisory Committee with representatives from H.B. Zachary, USAA, SAWS and campus representatives. Committee members reviewed matriculations agreements with area universities, and evaluated recommended changes for the AAS Business Management Degree, and four certificate programs.

PAC To Stage Financial Aid Bash

In response to feedback by students, the Financial Aid and Recruitment departments held a “Financial Aid Bash” in the Student Center, April 9. Computer stations were set up and advisors were available to assist students in completing their 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Approximately two-thirds of all undergraduate students at PAC receive financial aid awards.

PAC Counselor Awarded Doctorate

Yolanda Reyna, assistant professor of Student Development and counselor, L.P.C., successfully defended her dissertation at the Baylor University School of Education, March 20. Reyna’s dissertation was entitled “A Study of Relationship between Selected Background/Psychosocial Variables and the Persistence of Hispanic Female Community College Students.”
