Thousands Attend Tech Expo at SAC

Thousands of high school students attended the annual Technology Exposition and Career Fair, coordinated by Dr. Charlotte Wolf, Director of Instructional Technologies, and hosted by San Antonio College. The event featured displays and demonstrations of some of the most current technology in a variety of fields, in addition to career information, bilingual financial aid information, Tech Prep and academic counseling. Vendors and departments from San Antonio College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College and Northeast Lakeview College organized the exhibits, displays and demonstrations. In addition, music and food booths were available, and visitors won prizes and scholarships with drawings. Dell Inc. and LULAC were among the sponsors of this event, which included 50 technology companies. This event is a part of the San Antonio College effort to bring high school students to the campus to better acquaint them with the college.

SAC Top Ranked by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education

San Antonio College received top ranking in the March 10 issue of The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education that positively reflects on student success, enrollment, and faculty diversity regarding Hispanics. Compared with other colleges nationwide, SAC ranked 18th in awarding of associate degrees to Hispanics, 12th in enrollment of Hispanics, and 4th in the number of Hispanic faculty.


SAC Parking Garage Wins Architectural Award

Schwab Structural Engineering received the San Antonio Council of Engineering Companies Engineering Excellence Award for the pre-cast specialty engineering design and detailing services for the recently completed Parking Garage at San Antonio College. As architect of record, O’Connell-Robertson was instrumental in proposing the award-winning pre-cast design.

College Works To Increase Student Success

The Strategic Quality Enhancement Team (SQUET) has initiated several committees to explore ways to increase student success at San Antonio College. These committees include the Student/Stakeholder Task Team, Professional Development Task Team, Graduation Task Team, and the Student Responsibility/Shared Success Committee. In addition, the SQUET Team is identifying the measures (Key Performance Indicators) and Action Plans needed to achieve the college’s goals and objectives in its Strategic Plan.

Emergency Response Committee Updates Report

The Emergency Response Committee, chaired by Betty Lee Birdsall, has drafted an update of the existing college Emergency Response Plan for President Robert Zeigler’s approval. The plan deals with identifying the Emergency Response Team, evacuation notification process, availability and training for evacuation chairs, and recommendations for a variety of emergency situations. After approval, the final plan will be widely distributed to the college community.
