![]() Northeast Lakeview College Recycles for a Better Earth(San Antonio, TX - April 30, 2007) To commemorate Earth Day, Northeast Lakeview College held a week long recycling project. From April 10 - 18th, boxes were placed near trash receptacles in hallways and major student traffic areas to collect cans and plastic. The boxes were emptied daily. At the conclusion of the project, Northeast Lakeview College collected over 300 gallons of cans and plastic; four full trash bags every day. In addition to the college's recycling efforts, Northeast Lakeview College featured a special presentation of Al Gore's Academy Award Winning film "An Inconvenient Truth" on April 18th. Members of the community, students, faculty, and staff attended the event. Along with the feature presentation, participants also learned about global warming, the recycling process and various recycling opportunities in the community. Both events were coordinated by Jennifer Marks, Northeast Lakeview College speech instructor and Stefanie Greiner, Ph.D., instructor of psychology. "Although the project was only a week in length, it created an awareness of the growing global problem and how we can all help," says Marks. Northeast Lakeview College hopes to initiate a formal recycling program on its campus. For more information on recycling efforts in your neighborhood, click here.
