Online courses offer the convenience and flexibility of participating in a course without a formal schedule or location. However, it does require a unique set of skills and learning style. ___I know how to connect to the Web using a web browser. Is Your Computer Ready For Internet Courses? You need to have a system that has a Pentium II or higher processor, a 56k or faster modem, at least 64MB of RAM and 15MB of free disk space. You will also need Internet Explorer, Netscape or any updated browser and internet access through an internet service provider. Finally, you must have an email address in order to take an internet course. If you don’t already have one, you can get a student email address without charge. How is an online class different than attending a traditional class? An online class differs from a classroom environment because you will choose the time and place for learning. An online course is self-paced and provides for independent learning. Since the course is over the Internet, you will be spending a lot of time in front of the computer reading and writing. You will also be required to participate in online discussions. What about tests? Is an online class easier than going to a class? What are the benefits to taking an online class? |
