In-District Borrowing

NLC Library staff will place in-district borrowing requests (to the other ACCD libraries) for currently enrolled NLC students, faculty, and staff. Just let us know what you're interested in borrowing. You can check the ACCD Online Catalog to determine holdings in the other libraries and to see if it's available for circulation. Some materials like reference, course reserves, and some media do not circulate outside of the owning library. We'll let you know if that's the case with the material that you want to borrow.

IDB FAQ

1) What can be requested through IDB (vs. ILL)? Materials owned by NWV, SAC, PAC, and SPC may be requested and sent via the ACCD PONY to our library. For materials not owned by one of the other ACCD libraries, use the ILL service.

2) How do you I make an IDB request? Requests can be made in person at the NLC Reference Desk or by filling out the appropriate online form for Books, Media, or Periodical Articles. You'll need to provide us with the owning library and the call number which can be found in the Online Catalog record.

3) How long does it take? IDB turn-around time is dependent on the lending library. Typically, items requested take about 3 or 4 working days. When you make your request, always include a not needed after date. You can check back with us about the progress of your IDB requests. Give us a call at 210.590.5461.

4) How many items can be requested? NLC students will be limited to 3 IDB requests at a time and priority will be given to course supportive material requests. IDB requests count toward the total number of items on a patron's record as do ILL requests. You can check your patron record to see how many items you have checked out and when they're due by clicking on the patron record link.

5) Are there any restrictions to borrowing materials via IDB? NWV, SAC, PAC, and SPC may make further restrictions on the loan of their materials. They will set the loan period as well. Be sure to ask about renewing materials BEFORE they are due.

6) Other than by IDB and ILL, can I borrow items from non-ACCD libraries? Great question! NLC library users in good standing may get a TexShare Borrower's Card and directly borrow materials from libraries (academic, public, and medical) all over the state. Stop by the Circulation Desk to obtain a card. Cards are good for the semester in which they are issued and borrowers are responsible for returning materials to the owning library.
