Services for Deaf Students
Students requesting services must complete an Intake Form, along with the complete application package outlined below, and submit it to Stacie Williams in Room 102B.
NOTE: Northeast Lakeview College requires at least a two-week notice prior to each semester for Interpreter Service requests. Due to the shortage of interpreters in the area, students are highly encouraged to register early to ensure interpreter services for all classes. Students who enroll during late registration are not guaranteed interpreter services. To locate the dates for early registration, go to www.accd.edu/nlc and click on the schedule for the semester you are enrolling.
In accordance with new District policies and Section 54 of the Educational Code, all students who are deaf are required to submit the following documents to Student Services (Room 102B), to remain on file, in order to receive an approved tuition waiver for Northeast Lakeview College:
- 1. Completed Education Plan Application - Students are required to complete an Education Plan Application prior to enrollment with Northeast Lakeview College. Students must update the Plan when appropriate. (The Education Plan Application is property of Northeast Lakeview College to be used as an in-house tool and is not a state or federal-issued document.)
- 2. Major / Degree Plan- Students obtain their Degree Plan from their academic advisor. It includes the student's degree, certificate or enhanced program plan.
- 3. Certificate of Deafness - Students must obtain a Certificate with the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services, Division of Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services, based in Austin, Texas.
- 4. High School Transcript - Students must submit their high school and/or college transcript(s) to Student Services as a requisite for enrollment.
- 5. Letter of Recommendation - Students are required to obtain a letter of recommendation from their high school principal, employer or some other responsible adult who is willing to serve as a reference.
After registering for classes and submitting the above documents to Room 102B, Ms. Williams will approve the Certificate of Deafness, which can then be presented to the Bursar's Office for a tuition waiver.
