High School Freshmen Become College Students

Judson Early College Academy Logo(July 20, 2009) Judson Early College Academy (JECA) high school freshmen completed the ApplyTexas application in the Northeast Lakeview College library on July 18th. The ApplyTexas application gets each student in the college system and is required of all students before they can register for college courses. This the first step to allow them to begin taking college classes at Northeast Lakeview College.

Northeast Lakeview College has partnered with Judson ISD to construct an Early College Partnership (ECP) High School. JECA will be housed on the Northeast Lakeview College campus and allow these select number of Judson ISD students to complete high school at which time they will receive both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. As freshman, JECA students will take high school classes while incorporating one college class into their schedules. As the students progress through high school, additional classes will be taken on the Northeast Lakeview College campus and the students will earn college credit. The first students at the Judson Early College Academy are scheduled to begin classes on August 24.

While the students completed the ApplyTexas application, JECA parents attended a kick-off for the PTSO organization. The focus of this meeting was adopting the PTSO by-laws.

Upcoming Events include a Meet & Greet on August 8th where students will tour the new high school facility and Northeast Lakeview College and a Prep Day on August 14th where the students will get their ID cards, books, and schedules.
