Personal Interest/Leisure Learning

At Northwest Vista College, we believe that learning is a lifelong journey. Your personal and professional growth is important to us, and we are committed to helping you reach your goals.

The NVC staff and faculty are passionate about community support. Whether you are beginning or continuing your personal or professional education, we strive to improve the quality of life for all learners.

Here is a list of classes and descriptions that are offered. Contact us with any questions, or if you need assistance.

Conversational Spanish:  Beginning level of conversation for someone who has no prior knowledge of Spanish other than a few common vocabulary terms. This conversation based course invites students to exercise their Spanish with a goal of feeling comfortable enough to engage in casual conversation.  Learn basic conversational terms like: where the bathroom is; how much an item in the market is; ask for their food and check at a restaurant, and so forth.

Dancercise: Combines dance and exercise. Improve your cardiovascular health while dancing to fun music. Classes include a variety of basic dance techniques essential for strengthening and stretching while enjoying your workout. Wear comfortable clothing & come prepared to dance - prepare to simply have fun moving!

Digital Photography: Learn about the advantages of using digital photography and improve your photos through better composition. Learn to share your digital images/pictures with friends and family on the Internet or via email. Bring your camera to class. Taking better pictures is just a click away!

Fine and Performing Arts Classes: Participate in courses designed to facilitate the development of your Fine and Performing Arts skills. Sessions can be taken in dance, music, art, and drama. Please call us directly for more information about NVC’s programs.

Native Landscaping: Increase your curb appeal today! Learn about local vegetation and how these treasures can be preserved with an emphasis on choosing and maintaining native plants, not just common exotics. Learn how to attract natural wildlife to your yard by planting your preferred plants to create a haven close to our homes. The beauty of a native landscaped yard will help increase the aesthetic appeal of your yard and reduce your water usage to save you money. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to apply for a Certified Wildlife Habitat and/or Texas Wildscapes Certification for their yard - which will surely make them the envy of the whole neighborhood!
