It is important that you thoroughly review this checklist and complete each applicable item.
Pay careful attention to bolded and underlined links, which open the referenced form or Web site.

1. Complete Your Dual Credit Application

Please be aware that the final deadline to submit your application for the
2007-2008 Dual Credit Program is April 30, 2007.

FIRST TIME DUAL CREDIT - If you are applying to participate in the Northwest Vista College Dual Credit Program for the first time, you must complete a Web Admissions Application. Be sure to read the instructions at this link before completing the application. Access to the web admissions application is not available 24/7. Access hours are: Monday - Thursday 7am-10pm, Friday 7am-6pm, Saturday 8am-1pm, Sunday N/A.

OR

CURRENT DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS - If you are currently enrolled in Dual Credit for 2006-2007, you are not required to complete a Web Admissions Application. However, you must complete a Currently Enrolled Dual Credit Student Form. Download this form and submit it to your high school liaison.

2. Parent & Student Consent Form

ALL STUDENTS - Download, complete and submit the Dual Credit Parent & Student Consent Form to your high school liaison. We recommend making a copy for your personal records.

3. Residency and Other Supporting Documents

DEPENDENTS OF ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL - If your parent/legal guardian is active duty military, you must submit a Military Verification Form each year. It will require information from your sponsor parent/legal guardian and he or she will need to have it certified at their military duty station. Once the form has been completed, submit it to your high school liaison. If your parent/legal guardian is assigned in a state other than Texas, contact your NVC liaison to determine what is needed.

NON-U.S. CITIZEN STUDENTS - Dual Credit applicants who are not U.S. citizens need to provide current proof of immigration status. If this applies to you, please provide a copy (front and back) of your residency documentation (such as a Permanent Resident Alien card) to your high school liaison. Contact your NVC liaison if you need help with this.

NON-U.S. CITIZEN PARENT/GUARDIANS - If the parent/legal guardian upon whom you are basing your residency is not a U.S. citizen, you need to provide current proof of their immigration status as well. If this applies in your case, please provide a copy (front and back) of your parent/legal guardian’s residency documentation (such as a Permanent Resident Alien Card) to your high school liaison. Contact your NVC liaison if you need help with this.

OTHER DOCUMENTS - On specific occasions, your NVC liaison may contact you to request additional supporting documents not listed here to verify your residency. If you fail to provide those documents, your application will be considered incomplete.

4. Transcripts, Testing and Scores

TRANSCRIPTS - Northwest Vista College will need a copy of your current high school transcript. Your NVC liaison will request your NISD high school transcript (including any test scores on file) from the Registrar on your behalf. However, your Parent & Student Consent Form must first be on file. If NVC is unable to obtain your transcript, you may be asked to request it directly from the Registrar. Home school transcripts must be notarized to be considered official.

Private school students must submit a sealed, official transcript from their high school registrar's office. Home school students must submit a notarized home school transcript.

TESTING – All students attending a Texas public institution of higher education must comply with Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements. If you are not already TSI-exempt based on available SAT, ACT, or TAKS scores, you will need to test in order to determine your eligibility for the Dual Credit Program. Although other exams may be taken (such as the THEA or QT), the most convenient is the Accuplacer. The Accuplacer is a web-based alternative-THEA exam offered by Northwest Vista College. Students must know their Social Security Number, present a picture I.D., and pay a fee of $15.00 for the exam.

TEST SCORES - All applicable Accuplacer, THEA, QT, SAT, ACT, and TAKS scores must be on file with Northwest Vista College in order to determine your eligibility to participate in the Dual Credit Program. In most cases, official SAT, ACT and TAKS scores will already be on your high school transcript. If you test with Northwest Vista College, we will already have your scores on file. If you test at another college, you need to submit an official copy of your test scores to Northwest Vista College. If you have any questions, please contact your NVC liaison.

5. Deadlines

NISD HIGH SCHOOLS

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATION, CONSENT AND OTHER DOCUMENTATION
Varies by high school, check with your High School or NVC liaison.
This deadline is usually earlier than the final NVC deadline of April 30, 2007.

DEADLINE TO TEST
APRIL 30, 2007

It is your responsibility to ensure that all requirements are met by the deadline. Missing or incomplete documents will prevent you from being considered eligible for participation in the Dual Credit Program and you will not be registered. If you have questions about any of the requirements stated above, please contact your NVC liaison.

HOME AND PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Students must meet the published registration deadlines each semester and are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

The Fall 2007 Dual Credit Web Admissions Application will be available beginning mid March. Applications will not be accepted for Spring 2007 after April 30, 2007.

6. Check Your High School Course Card, Schedule and Roster

DOUBLE-CHECK - Make sure your 2007-2008 high school course card indicates that you will be enrolling in the Dual Credit classes for which you are applying. Also, check your class schedule to make sure your Dual Credit classes are listed (example: American History AP DC). Finally, once in your Dual Credit class, ask your instructor to verify that you are on the Northwest Vista College roster, which is separate from the high school roster. If you decide to drop or withdraw from your Dual Credit course, be sure to contact your NVC liaison.

The web admissions application is not available 24/7. Hours of access are:
Monday - Thursday 7am-10pm, Friday 7am-6pm, Saturday 8:00am-1pm, Sunday N/A
