About Northwest Vista College

Northwest Vista College is the newest and fastest-growing college of the Alamo Community College District (ACCD). For additional information about our college, visit our About Northwest Vista College page.

By participating in the Dual Credit Program, you are getting a head start on your college education. The Dual Credit you earn may apply towards a degree at Northwest Vista College or be transferred to another institution. It is ultimately the responsibility of the student to verify course transferability with their transfer institution. Many of the Dual Credit academic courses taken at the high school will apply toward core curriculum requirements, while Career and Technology Dual Credit courses are geared towards completing a technical degree at Northwest Vista College. To learn more about the different types of degrees and programs available at Northwest Vista College, visit our Degree Planning page.

Many Dual Credit students continue their studies at Northwest Vista College after high school, while retaining the option to transfer their credit to another institution. Northwest Vista is a great place to start your college career. Our campus is beautiful, our classes are small, and our faculty and staff put students first.

Student Services Available to Dual Credit Students

  • In addition to the services provided by your high school counselors and career center, academic advisors are available to assist you with planning for college. Contact your NVC liaison for information.
  • NVC's Academic Computer Lab and Tutoring Services is available to assist students with tutoring in certain subject areas and also provides access to computers for school use.
  • The NVC Library provides comprehensive library services, including access to online resources and other Texas public and university libraries through the TexShare Card program.
  • Access to most NVC and ACCD services, events and facilities (students may be required to present their NVC Dual Credit ID Card).

Interpreting NVC Course Numbers

When viewing the chart of available Dual Credit courses, you will see the equivalent NVC Course Numbers listed. NVC uses the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS). For details regarding how to interpret the numbering system used, visit our catalog.

NVC Grading System and Calculating Your GPA

NVC uses a standard 4-point scale grading system in calculating each student's grade point average (GPA). For example, a grade of 4.0 is considered an 'A' (excellent). Your instructor will assign your grade. Northwest Vista College does not record or report midterm grades. NVC does not mail grade reports to students, but you may access your grades online by logging in with your Student ID and PIN used to apply for admission. For additional information regarding NVC's grading system and how to calculate your GPA, visit our catalog.

Dropping or Withdrawing from Your Dual Credit Course

It is important to remember that all Dual Credit course grades, passing or failing, are recorded on an official Northwest Vista College transcript. If you are concerned about your progress in your Dual Credit course, discuss this with your instructor.

If you would like to drop or withdraw from a course, you must complete a request ("drop slip") and submit it to your NVC or High School liaison. Although your instructor may choose to submit a request on your behalf, it is ultimately your responsibility as the student to make sure you are removed from the course roster. Keep in mind that dropping a course from your high school class schedule does not automatically drop you from the NVC Dual Credit class schedule.

Courses dropped on or before the published census date for that term are not recorded on the NVC transcript. Courses dropped after the census date are considered withdrawn, and a non-penalty grade of W is assigned. Ws do not affect your GPA, but might affect future financial aid opportunities if accumulated in excess. In addition to the census date, you will want to be aware of the last day to withdraw. These dates are available from your NVC or High School liaison.

Your Northwest Vista College Transcript

All Dual Credit coursework is recorded on an official Northwest Vista College transcript. In order for an official Northwest Vista College transcript to be released, an official high school transcript with your graduation date must be on file with the Student Success Center. We recommend that you submit this as soon as possible after graduation (some high schools may not post your graduation date on your transcript until some time after the ceremony).

You may access your unofficial transcript online by logging in with your Student ID and PIN used to apply for admission. If you are applying for admissions at another institution, you will need to notify that institution that you are earning college credit as a Dual Credit Student with Northwest Vista College and will be unable to obtain an official transcript until after graduation from high school. Some schools may accept a written statement along with a printout of your unofficial transcript from the web. If requested in advance, your NVC liaison may also provide this (referred to as a "Dual Credit Transcript Letter").
