Math Department Mission Statement

The members of the Department of Mathematics believe that all students are capable of developing their intellectual potential.

Our mission is to help students:

• Appreciate the relevance of mathematics, its relationship to other disciplines, and its role, both in society and in their personal lives.
  
  
• Develop the attitude, skills, and knowledge necessary to understand, analyze, and solve practical problems, with a special emphasis on critical-thinking and the application of mathematical techniques.
  
  
• Understand the benefits of cooperative learning and how it can be balanced with independent learning to foster lifelong learning.
