This assignment consists of Sections I-IV. The sections are published in groups or individually to maximize access/download time.

Go to the specified links and to complete this assignment:

Section I
Use the glossary in http://www.essentialsofmusic.com/ to define the following terminology.

  • Melody (listen to the audio example)
  • Phrase (listen to the audio example)
  • Cadence (listen to the audio example)
  • Scale Half step
  • Whole step
  • Major Scale (listen to the audio example)

 

Section II
Setting up a document in Finale Notepad.

1. Locate Finale notepad in the start menu under "programs" and start
the program.

2. The document setup wizard will appear. Type the name of your
melody in the title field and your name in the composer field. Click "Next"

3. Choose parts. A menu of instruments will appear. Choose one of the
following: piccolo, flute, recorder, or oboe, from the middle column:

After you have selected your instrument, click the "add" button to the
right. Your instrument will appear in the third column:

Click "Next"

4. Key and Time Signatures. At the top of the next dialogue box, select
4/4 time:

Click "Finish" and a staff will appear with your title and name at the top
with your specified instrument:

You are now ready to begin writing music.
