Recreation Sports & Wellness

Your college experience should be more than “eat, work, sleep and study”. Extracurricular activities are essential, and our goal is to provide you with the opportunity for physical activity, healthy competition, and wellness and leisure activities.

Students who participate in recreational sports activities

  • develop a positive self-image and stronger social interaction skills;
  • maintain good physical health;
  • enhance their critical thinking skills and creativity;
  • perform more effectively in an academic environment.

Your enjoyment as a participant is the most important goal of Recreation Sports & Wellness.

Fitness Center
Membership Requirements & Fees

The Fitness Center is a pay for use facility. Membership to the Fitness Center is restricted to the NVC community, to include Students, Faculty, Adjuncts, and full/part-time Staff.  Users must be 18 years of age. All users must present a current NVC ID/Fitness Sticker to gain entrance into the Fitness Center.
Membership fees are purchased semesterly through the following steps;

FEES:

  • $60 Oct 2009 – May 2010 *Introductory Special*
  • $60 Jan 2010 – May 2010
  • $30 Jun 2010 – Aug 2010
  • $60 Sep 2010 – Dec 2010

Fees Usage:

  • Fees are used to maintain, buy, and replace fitness equipment such as treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines, mats, exercise balls, jump ropes, disinfecting wipes and spray bottles.
  • Fees pay for instructors to teach fitness sessions such as Aerobics, Yoga, Pilates, Martial Arts, Kick Boxing, and Group personal training.
  • All paid users can participate in any of the above fitness sessions based on space availability, so arrive early.
  • ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE REGARDLESS OF USAGE OR STATUS.

Fitness Center Hours

Members are welcome to use the fitness center during open hours. The Fitness Center is open six days per week.

Mon – Thurs:   6:30 am - 10:00 p.m.
Friday: 6:30 am - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 am - 3:00 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

The Fitness Center and Gym will be closed when main campus is closed and classes are not in session. (Spring/Winter break)
Hours may be adjusted after 1-2 months of daily and hourly usage assessment.

Fitness Center Rules and Policies

Members are required to present their valid Northwest Vista ID card each time they use the facility. Participants must dress appropriately to maintain a sanitary environment and to protect upholstery on equipment.  Members are expected to follow any direction provided by Fitness Center staff especially relating to matters pertaining to safety. 

Therefore:

  • Please wipe down the equipment you use before and after each use to help prevent the spreading of MRSA bacteria.
  • Please bring a lock and your own towel to use in the fitness center.
  • Sneakers are required, NO open toe shoes, sandals or boots of any kind.
  • A shirt must be worn, NO jeans 
  • Members are expected to wipe down equipment after each use with the appropriate wipes or spray cleaner;
  • Bars must be broken down and all weights returned to their proper location after use; 
  • Tobacco products and food is not allowed.  Water bottles, sport drinks, and energy bars are fine if kept contained;
  • Books bags and other personal items are not allowed in the fitness center.
  • Members are required to leave their valid Northwest Vista ID card to check out any Fitness Center/Recreation Sports equipment.  Members are personally responsible to return all items issued to them. Members will be charged for the replacement of unreturned or lost items;
  • While the Fitness Center has lockers for members for their personal use, the Fitness Center does not claim responsibility for lost or stolen articles in association with their usage. 
  • The Fitness Center staff has authority over all room conduct and use of equipment, including sound system and tv’s.
  • Misuse or falsification of identification cards will not be tolerated and violators will be prosecuted through the College judicial system

Members who do not adhere to the Fitness Center rules will have their membership terminated and will NOT receive a refund.

LOCKER ROOMS

Lockers are available on a first come, first served basis. Lockers should always be locked; belongings should never be left outside the locker. Valuables should never be stored in the locker. Suspicious conditions or activities should be reported immediately to the front desk.

All lockers are for DAY USE ONLY! All lockers must be emptied, cleaned out, and locks removed by the time you leave the building. At the end of the night, any remaining locks may be cut and items will be removed and disposed of.

Activities fills up fast, register on-line, call, or stop by the Recreation Sports office located in Huisache Hall to sign-up as soon as possible.
