about applying for financial aid

You apply for financial aid once per academic year using the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). Go to the Federal Student Aid FAFSA and FAFSA Application Deadlines Web pages to learn more.

At NVC the academic year is defined as: Fall / Spring / Summer. For instance, use the 2008-2009 School Year (July 1st, 2008 - June 30th, 2009) for any or all of the following:

  • Fall 2008
  • Spring 2009
  • Summer 2009

Please use the following links to read more information about Applying for Financial Aid and Enrolling in College in the Northwest Vista College Catalog.

You can apply for the Fall 2009 semester starting January 1, 2009. In general, you must apply at least 4 weeks before the last day of classes of your last semester for the academic year.
EXCEPTION: When applying during the summer for a summer term, you must submit your application by June 30 AND also allow 4 weeks processing time before your last day of classes.

before you complete a FAFSA you should

apply for a pin...
From the U.S Department of Education. A pin is your electronic signature. Having one will speed up your application process and it will make applying for aid in the future a lot easier.

gather your tax information...

You are required to report income information from your most recent tax return. If you do not meet the independent status criteria you will need your parents income information as well. If you think you qualify as an independent student, you must check with Student Financial Services before you proceed. They will advise you on your dependency status.
