“I am from another country and would like to attend NVC.”
Thank you for choosing Northwest Vista College (NVC) as your institution for higher learning! At NVC, we value diversity. International students help us to create a diverse campus and are welcomed in the community. Our campus provides small class size and a positive learning environment. We are looking forward to creating opportunities for your success!
Eligibility to Study based upon Immigration Status
Prospective students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens must have a qualifying visa type in order to study in the United States. Please refer to an excerpt from the Immigration Classifications and Legal Employment of Foreign Nationals in the United States chart distributed by NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
Admissions Requirements
Students using transcripts for admissions purposes only and not for transfer credit are required to have only the transcript translated. Interpretation and evaluation of the transcript is not required.
Foreign Credentials Evaluation for Transfer Credit
Students requesting transcript evaluation for transfer credit must submit the official transcript and an official third (3) party report/recommendation from a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member that includes translation, interpretation, and evaluation of the transcript. Credit will be awarded based on the information contained in the report and offerings of the Alamo Colleges.
English Language Training
International students who require English language training are encouraged to enroll in ESL courses before pursuing enrollment into academic courses taught in the English language.

Application Deadlines:
The length of time to obtain a visa may vary according to the country in which students are applying. When applying for admission to NVC should submit all materials as early as possible. Students that receive their I-20 form near the admission’s deadline may not have time to allow for processing of documents by the appropriate US government agencies. Embassies and consulates sometimes require F-1 visa applicants to schedule their appointments two (2) months prior to the actual date of the visa interview. Students who do not arrive in time to register before the first day of classes will not be allowed to enroll. After the above requirements are fulfilled, the candidate will be eligible for evaluation toward official admission and enrollment, and if approved, the I-20 form will be issued.
To be considered for admission, the following documents must be submitted prior to the deadlines (June 1 for fall; October 1 for spring; March 1 for summer).
There are two (2) ways that an international student can study and enroll at NVC.
1. Academic Credit students
International Students may take courses at NVC for academic credit toward both the completion of an Associate’s degree at NVC and Bachelor’s degree at a transfer institution. NVC also offers Associate of Applied Science degrees that offer students technical and vocational training to prepare students for work in a specific industry.
2. Continuing Education (Non-Academic Credit) students
International students can take Continuing Education classes regardless of residency status and without having to change his/her VISA type. Individuals interested in continuing education at NVC should call (210) 486-4000 for more information. |
