Course Themes
This is the calendar for all of your assignments. There are three sections to the course: A, B, and C.
Students are required to complete three themes from each section of the course. The other one you can skip.
For Section A, you do three of the four themes. The same for Section B. The same for Section C.
Yes, that means you just skip the other ones. This way, you don't have to be doing something
every week. No, you cannot do extra themes for extra credit, but some of the themes contain work you CAN do for extra credit.
Pick your themes carefully! Experience has shown this instructor that students sometimes wait too long, get stuck with themes they don't really like, then do a less than stellar job. Look them over closely. Decide which ones you want to do, then turn them in on or before the date and time required. I can not accept late work for any reason.

About Your Instructor
Robert Hines, Assistant Professor of History
Palo Alto College, San Antonio, Texas
Behind me lies twenty-two years of teaching experience. In addition to my nineteen years of work at Palo Alto College, I teach courses at Our Lady of the Lake University. Previously, I taught courses at the University of the Incarnate Word and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
I completed my Bachelor's Degree in History in 1977. I taught High School History and Government classes in the Chicago and St. Louis areas for 3 years. In 1985 I finished my Masters Degree, whereupon I journeyed overseas to Papua New Guinea, where I taught English and History for two years under the auspices of the United States Peace Corps.
I then made my way to South Texas in 1989, gaining employment
as an adjunct instructor of history at Palo Alto College, the then new
campus of the Alamo Community College District in San Antonio, Texas.
I am now a tenured Instructor of History at Palo Alto, where I teach
both halves of U.S. History, and World Civilization.
With my colleagues Peter Myers and Rex Field, I am the co-editor of Life
in the American Past, a two volume collection of readings and documents
in American History. I am married to the former Kimberly Augustus.
We are the parents of two sons, Adam and Liam.
