BASIC CABLE & TELECOMMUNICATIONS (51 Hours) Cable Installer is one of the highest demand information technology skills in San Antonio. Network giants such as Time Warner Cable, AT&T, Grande Communications and others hire hundreds of installers per year. Get the edge by having a skill set you need to make you stand out from your fellow job applicants. The Basic Cable and Telecommunications program at Palo Alto College is designed for students interested in the physical aspects of voice and data network cabling and installation. The course focuses on cabling issues related to data and voice connections and provides an understanding of the industry and its worldwide standards, types of media and cabling, physical and logical networks, as well as signal transmission. The program includes network design documentation, part list set up and purchase, pulling and mounting cable, cable management, crafting wiring closets and patch panel installation and termination as well as installing jacks and cable testing. Also included are modules on, soft skills such as customer service and sales, on-the-job safety, and industry regulations. Course fees include textbooks, toolkits, and 51 hours of total instruction. Classes are held evenings twice weekly in room 104 of the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) at the Port of San Antonio (formerly KellyUSA), 312 Clarence Tinker Drive, San Antonio 78226.
