Basic Cable and Telecommunications (51 Hours)
The Basic Cable and Telecommunications program at Palo Alto College was developed in partnership with Time Warner Cable of San Antonio and teaches to standards established by the Jones/NCTI - the industry trade group for the national cable and telecommunications industry. The program is designed to impart the entry-level skills needed to secure a positions as an Installation Technician with Time Warner Cable of San Antonio. All students successfully completing this program are guaranteed an interview with Time Warner Cable of San Antonio. The Basic Cable Installer program is designed for students interested in the physical aspects of voice and data network cabling and installation. The course focuses on cabling issues related to data and voice connections and provides an understanding of the industry and its worldwide standards, types of media and cabling, physical and logical networks, as well as signal transmission. Instruction includes network design documentation, part list set up and purchase, pulling and mounting cable, cable management, crafting wiring closets and patch panel installation and termination as well as installing jacks and cable testing. Also included are modules on, soft skills such as customer service and sales, on-the-job safety, and industry regulations.
Course fees include textbooks, toolkits, and 51 hours of total instruction. Classes are held evenings twice weekly in room 104 of the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) at the Port of San Antonio (formerly KellyUSA), 312 Clarence Tinker Drive, San Antonio 78226. Parking is free!
