GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Social Work Program is located in the Protective Services Department, General
Education Building, Room 237 on the campus of Palo Alto College in San Antonio, Texas. Palo AltoCollege is a two year college dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in its educational programs and services.
GOAL:
The Social Work program at Palo Alto strives to provide the student with the foundations
necessary to prepare them for completion of their academic career which will result in a professional social work degree.
SOCIAL WORK CAREERS:
Social workers in Texas are required to have a license and at minimum, a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from an accredited school.
Both BSW and MSW social workers are employed in a variety of settings to include schools, universities, nursing homes, public health and mental health agencies, child protective services, hospitals, the criminal justice system and social
service agencies.
SALARY INFORMATION:
The median pay for social workers with:
2-4 years experience is $35,000;
5-9 years, $43,000;
10-14 years, $50,000;
20-24 years, $55,000;
25 or more years $60,000
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS:
Students may pursue a 2-year Associate of Arts degree in Social Work from Palo Alto College and transfer their credits to a 4 year institution leading to a Bachelors of Social Work Degree. Transfer agreements are in place with Texas State University and the Worden School of Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake University. Students completing a transfer plan are eligible to receive an AA degree from Palo Alto College.
