International Learning Outcomes Background
Educators from the institutions participating in the ACE/FIPSE project over the past developed a common set of international learning outcomes. First, the group outlined six international competency areas:
- knowledge of world issues, trends, and systems;
- knowledge of one’s own culture and diverse world cultures and artifacts;
- understanding of one’s own beliefs and values in the context of different cultures;
- capacity for interpersonal, intercultural, and inter-professional relations;
- capacity to apply cultural knowledge to diverse contexts (e.g., academic, professional, and community); and
- ability to communicate effectively in a foreign language.
These six areas align with the familiar domains of knowledge, attitudes and values, and behavior.
