Getting a Notetaker
- Get a "Tips for Requesting a Notetaker" info flyer,
pens and special 2-ply notetaking paper from Disability Support Services.
- Try
to recruit your notetaker by the second week of class to get
notetakers, as some students decide to drop classes after the
first
day or week. If you request the Disability Support Services to copy the
first week's notes, bring them into the Disability Support Services and
allow up to two days for copying.
- Pick two students in your class
you think would be a good notetaker and ask them if they are
willing to be your notetakers. One student
is the primary notetaker and the other is a back up.
- Pick a student
who comes to class, takes notes, writes clearly and seems organized.
(Instructor may be able to help if you are
unsure of which student to ask).
- If the first student you ask
says "no", you say "thank
you" and pick a new student to ask.
- If the first student you
ask says "yes", give them the
sign up form to fill out.
- Give your new notetaker the pen and
special 2-ply notetaking paper.
- Make sure your notetaker always
has plenty of notetaking paper...you can get it free from Disability Support Services.
- At the end of each class separate the notes, you taking
a copy and the notetaker keeping a copy.
- Talk to your notetaker
and decide how you will get the notes if you are absent.
- If
you drop the class, be sure to tell the notetaker.
- If you have
any questions about the notes, ask the notetaker.
- Ask in Disability Support Services if you need any questions.
