Who Needs a Notetaker
Students who may need a notetaker, those with:
- Visual Impairments
- Learning Disabilities
- Head Injuries
- Hand Injuries
- who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Students request Notetakers because a disability makes it impossible
for them to:
- listen to the instructor
- pay attention to the black
board
- pay attention to a Sign Language Interpreter
- take notes ALL at the same time
They will be looking for a classmate who is willing
to volunteer to share their notes from a specific class, section
and time. It is the student's responsibility to find a notetaker.
If the
first classmate approached is unwilling...the student will just
ask another classmate. Occasionally a student may need assistance
to find a peer willing to share their notes...that is where the
instructor can help.
Students may ask the instructor to suggest a fellow student in
the class who is a good notetaker. In previous semesters, over
100 students used this system to take notes for students with disabilities.
Students who make good notetakers are:
- A or B students
- punctual
- have good attendance
- actually take notes (instead of daydreaming)
and
- are organized
