Veterinary Technology About Us

The Palo Alto College Veterinary Technology Program was started in 1996. In 1998, we received our provisional accreditation from the AVMA and our first class graduated. Then in 2004 we received our full accreditation.  Accreditation is given by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and indicates that a program meets or exceeds the AVMA's stringent requirements. Only students graduating from an accredited program can become an R.V.T. Our program currently accepts 50 students a year. Our classrooms and labs are located on the Palo Alto College campus, in San Antonio.

With a full time veterinarian, several adjunct faculties, three registered veterinary technicians, and a full time secretary, our program is designed to help students take full advantage of our professors' experience and expertise. Through up-to-date teaching methods and modern equipment, students learn how to assist veterinarians, biological researchers, and other scientists. Field trips to animal hospitals, wildlife centers, and other animal handling facilities, such as the San Antonio Zoo and Oakwell Farms Equestrian Center, enhance students' education as well as demonstrate many of the different arenas in which technicians may be employed.
