People attending the tribute pay their last respects. There was a wake for Cardozo in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he lived. On July 27,2001, his remains were then flown to Asuncion, Paraguay. Musicians from all over the country were on hand at the airport to receive him with song. From the airport, the procession continued on to the Centro Cultural Paraguayo-Japones where the above altar was created. The musical tribute proceeded through the afternoon here and resumed in the evening. The following day Cardozo Ocampo's ashes were scattered in a moving ceremony at Villa Elisa, near the outskirts of Asuncion. His sister, Amambay Cardozo Ocampo, a celebrated vocalist, is also buried there.
