MARTA TIJERINA
Former Talk Show Host, KWEX TV

Marta Tijerina has been an interpreter and language specialist for the Federal Court in immigration matters since 1989. She is also a highly respected media professional. For nearly 20 years she hosted a very popular daily talk show, En San Antonio, on KWEX Channel 41, one of two local Spanish language television stations. Since 1995 she has hosted a talk show on Catholic TV on a volunteer basis. She says she enjoys this more because the show appears on a nonprofit television station and thus is not subject to ratings. She believes that in this way she is truly serving the community.

Marta Tijerina speaks at the 2001 Image de San Antonio Awards where she was honored as an "Outstanding Hispanic Woman Role Model." The even was held in observance of Women's Equality Day on August 22.

In addition to the Image de San Antonio Award, Tijerina received recognition from the Governor of Texas Yellow Rose Commission. It is one of the most prestigious awards a Texas citizen can receive for community service. State Senator Leticia Van de Putte (left), the keynote speaker at the Image event, holds the petition.
