Class Three for the Information Research Certificate

Internet Quiz

7. True or False? The World Wide Web (WWW) contains text, images, sound, and video.

Answer

TRUE.

However, to access some types of images, sounds, and videos, you may need "plugins," which are additional small programs needed to run multimedia programs. Some examples of plugins are Flash and RealAudio.

One of the great advantages, and the appeal that accounts for the tremendous growth of the World Wide Web, is the ability to transmit images and sound. However, this is not the entire Internet. Most of the Internet, which is much older than the World Wide Web, is text-based and includes e-mail, FTP (file transfer protocol), chat, listservs, and many other functions.
