Class Three for the Information Research Certificate

Internet Quiz

9. True or False? A (hyper)link allows one to jump from one website to another website.

Answer

TRUE.

You can usually identify a link on a website because it is underlined, or a different color. Graphics which are links usually have a red border around them. Another, more certain, way to identify the presence of a link is to run the mouse cursor over it. If the arrow turns into a hand with one finger pointing, it is a link.

The ability to jump from link to link makes the Web a great learning tool. As you read about one subject, you can click on a link which defines a word, or gives you more information or graphics about a subject.

This same ability, however, can be an insidious trap. As you click around, exploring interesting pictures and sounds, you lose time and you lose focus.
