Mariana Ornelas' Trip to Spain, Summer 2004

Viva Madrid, Los Gabrieles and Epaña Cañí

Los Gabrieles... After experiencing Vivia Madrid, I didn´t think there was another bar that could top it for its interior, but I was mistaken. I had sensory overload here. This place is just a couple of doors down from Viva Madrid. It stays open until quite late.

As I was taking pictures here, there was a group of students celebrating the end of their final exams and graduation. They have all finished their degree in finance and actuary science. I had great fun talking to them that evening. Most of them live on the outskirts of Madrid and are of modest means. Like our students, they work and attend school. That night was an occasion for them to celebrate in earnest. As they say in Madrid, En buena hora! Congratulations!!

Epaña Cañí...This place was in my neighborhood and I would come here after a long internet session to relax since it was just around the corner. Cañí means a feeling of friendship and closeness, and that´s what this place meant to me,too each time I went in.
