A Selected Edition of W. D. H. was inaugurated at Indiana University Press in 1969. Some thirty volumes have been published, but most appear to be out of print.
Novels, 1875 - 1886, containing A Foregone Conclusion, A Modern Instance, Indian Summer, and The Rise Of Silas Lapham, is a volume in the Library of America, 1982. From the same source, Novels, 1886 - 1888, Containing The Minister's Charge, April Hopes, and Annie Kilburn was published in 1989. Presumably other volumes will follow. Howells wrote some thirty-eight novels.
