Charles Hodge, What is Darwinism and Other Writings on Science and Religion. Edited by Mark A. Noll and David N. Livingstone. Baker, 1994. This book is a reprint of a work, first published in 1874, by the great Princeton theologian, in which he explores the theological ramifications of the theory of evolution. There is also a contemporary reaction to Hodge by Asa Gray in a review. Suffice it to say that Charles Hodge is not William Jennings Bryan and that his reaction to Darwin is that of a man of learning as deep as his faith. It is fortunate to have a reprint of this book, which is at the least valuable as a period piece.
William Irvine, Apes, Angels, and Victorians. McGraw-Hill, 1955. Popularly written and amusing.
