MISSION

MISSION STATEMENT


Basic Skills Enrichment Programs upgrades the academic skills of developmental students in English, mathematics, and reading by using a variety of teaching methods and instructional formats in a non-course-based setting. It is the intent of the department to accept students at their present level of academic skills and, by upgrading those skills, to help students achieve their individual goals.

The department offers basic skills upgrade in individualized and small group settings to students in following categories:

  • Those returning after a time away from academics
  • Those who have not passed THEA after repeated attempts
  • Those who hold a baccalaureate degree and are preparing to take THEA for teacher certification
  • Those who must achieve an exit score in mathematics to earn a certificate or to graduate
  • Those who have made multiple attempts at course-based classes
  • Those who are referred by a dean as a condition of admission
