SELF-PACED STUDY

Basic Skills Enrichment Programs (BSEP)
Self-Paced Developmental Skills Upgrade

Take charge of your academic progress

Students may participate in a SELF-PACED non-course-based remediation class through BSEP as an alternative to course-based remediation. Developmental curriculum is available for math, reading, and English. Students should attend the recommended 6 to 10 hours per week during any of the available lab hours. There are no college credit hours attached to the courses; therefore participation in this program will not count toward the number of hours needed for financial aid. As always, non-SAC student's are welcome to enroll in any BSEP program for a fee.

WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM SELF-PACED STUDY: HOW IT WORKS:
  • Students who have failed the same developmental course twice
  • Students who have dropped a credit developmental course and want to upgrade their skills before returning to the credit class sequence
  • Students who need a minimum of review because they had a complete high school program years ago
  • Students who earned a GED and need to acquire college level skills
  • Students enrolled in a teacher certification program
  • Members of the community who want to upgrade their skills before entering college
  • Students who need a math exit score of 76 on the AccuPlacer test for program completion or graduation
  • Students work primarily in the BSEP computer lab but would be directed to additional materials (workbooks, videos, online resources) as needed
  • At the end of the semester students consult with the BSEP staff to review their progress and be advised on continuing the program or retaking the AccuPlacer tests
  • Students’ placement in the course-based math sequence would be based on their AccuPlacer score

TO REGISTER: Visit the BSEP office in the Moody Learning Center, Room 712 during office hours or call 733-2052 to make an appointment.
