TALC Features

 

Curricular Features:  What does the curriculum look like? 

  • Curriculum can be organized around a theme, question, or issue.
  • Faculty work together to make this organization decision.
  • A coordinated learning environment exists.
  • Curriculum is connected and integrated.
  • Linked courses provide opportunities for synergism, with courses supporting each other or connected by an interdisciplinary theme.

LC courses help students identify connections and conflicts among disciplines and articulate ways of knowing used by diverse populations.

 

Pedagogical Features: What kind of teaching and learning takes place? 

  • There are targeted learning outcomes.
  • Several active learning approaches can be used.
  • Students and faculty are collaborative learners.
  • Courses, disciplines, and teaching styles are flexible.
  • Learning also occurs outside the classroom.
  • Students work collaboratively in groups to learn material.
  • Different Learning Styles are taken into consideration.

Structural Features:  How is a Learning Community put together? 

  • Faculty volunteer to participate in a learning community. 
  • Faculty may have a discipline or fellow faculty member already chosen, or they can work with the Project Director to make these connections.
  • TALC office will recruit and enroll a cohort of students into both courses.
  • Faculty are encouraged to participate in all stages of development.
  • Faculty in the Learning Community will work together to develop their syllabi and to make the courses cohesive.
  • TALC courses are all transferable and required for Education majors.
  • Faculty and students provide feedback.
