V. COURSE GRADE
The course grade is based on the following timings of 15-sec to 5-min with 0-5 errors allowed and weighted at different percentages for lessons 1-41.

Grading Scale for Overall Average Words Per Minute is based on a 5-minute Course Entry Timing with 5 errors or less. This entry level timing will determine which scale will be followed for grading purposes. NOTE: STUDENTS GETTING A SPEED OF AT LEAST 65+ NET WORDS A MINUTE (71 GROSS WORDS A MINUTE) ON THE COURSE ENTRY TIMING (WORDS MINUS 2 FOR EACH ERROR WITH A 5-ERROR LIMIT) WILL NOT HAVE TO COMPLETE ALL THE LESSONS AND WILL RECEIVE AN A FOR THE COURSE.

COURSE ENTRY TIMING TABLE:

  LEVEL 1 LEVEL 2 LEVEL 3 LEVEL 4 GRADE
SPEED 35+ 45+ 55+ 65+ A

VI. COURSE CONTENT

POFT 2303, Speed and Accuracy Building, is a special keyboarding class designed to increase typing speed and accuracy. The alphabetic keys are reviewed two or more times for each exercise. Every lesson contains exercises of 15-sec., 30-sec., and 1- minute timings; in addition, later lessons contain 3, 4, and 5-minute timings. Students are encouraged to meet the speed and accuracy goals in each exercise before continuing on to the next one. Progress Reports and Grade Reports help students evaluate their progress.

VII. COMPETENCIES

At the completion of POFT 2303, the student will be able to:

1. Reach the Overall Average Words Per Minute on the scale of the level being worked on for an A Grade.
2. Reach the Overall Average Words Per Minute on the scale of the level being worked on for a B Grade.
3. Reach the Overall Average Words Per Minute on the scale of the level being worked on for a C Grade.
4. Reach the Overall Average Words Per Minute on the scale of the level being worked on for a D Grade.
5. Exit competency is based upon 5-minute timings with no more than 5 errors meeting the minimum speed.

VIII. TESTING

This course has no exams. Students repeat timings until mastery is learned. If timings meet the accuracy standard set, scores are automatically recorded on the Progress Report and the final grade is automatically calculated

Instructor Requirements

Staying on schedule-according to the applicable due date schedule is required. Students who do not turn in assignments for two consecutive weeks will be dropped from the course for lack of attendance. If a student is dropped from the class for excessive absences, a grade of “WN” will be recorded.

It is the student’s responsibility to follow the due date schedule. Failure to complete course work will result in your grade being lower than the grade recorded on your final grade report.
