I. CATALOG DESCRIPTION Keyboarding and Document formatting includes skill development in the operation of the keyboard by touch applying proper keyboarding techniques. Emphasis is upon development of acceptable speed and accuracy levels and formatting basic documents. The student will demonstrate proper keyboarding techniques including touch techniques and will demonstrate an acceptable level of keyboarding skill with a minimum speed of 30 words per minute (wpm). Basic business document creation is included.

V. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION A. Students of the online course will follow the on line weekly instructions. And the keyboarding pro software to complete exercises 1-25. B. Student independent practice
VI. COURSE GRADE Note: All tests will be administered on campus or proctored at another location. Test administered on campus will be in room NTC 203. Please e-mail me when you are ready to take a test. YOUR FIRST OBJECTIVE TEST WILL BE AFTER LESSON 25!
A. FIVE-MINUTE TIMED WRITINGS 40 PERCENT Grading is based upon speed and accuracy of the three best five-minute timed writings in accordance with the timed writing scale. All five-minute timed writings are supervised by the Instructor. Students will complete each five-minute timed writing drill twice; however, only the best one of the two five-minute timed writing drills will be recorded. If backspace key is used on five-minute timed writing, the five-minute timed writing will not be counted for grade. Students will not be allowed to practice five-minute timed writing drills. Five-minute timed writings are completed using the computer.
B. OBJECTIVE AND PERFORMANCE TESTS 30 PERCENT Objective tests are written measurements demonstrating knowledge of keyboarding terminology and proofreader's marks. Objective test questions may include true/false, multiple-choice, and completion. Performance tests are measurements of ability to input, format, proofread, edit, and prepare usable copy of documents within a limited time. Performance tests are completed using the computer.
C. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS 15 PERCENT Homework includes all lessons assigned by the Instructor for developing keyboarding and basic formatting techniques for Lessons 1-50. Homework is completed using the computer. All home work assignments must be completed before you are eligible to take the test; therefore, read and keep up with the course calendar. You will send all completed assignments to me through Blackboard vista to be graded. Students may complete Homework Assignments on campus by logging in to Vista.accd.edu on any computer with internet access.
D. FINAL EXAMINATION 15 PERCENT Final Examination will be given according to the Final Examination Policy as outlined in the San Antonio College Bulletin. Final Examination will be a comprehensive, timed performance test which will cover Lessons 1-50. Final Examination will be completed using the computer. Students must take the Final Examination in order to pass the course.

VIII. COMPETENCIES 1. Demonstrate the ability to key the alphabetic and number keys by touch with good technique. 2. Demonstrate the ability to key text containing all letters of the alphabet at a minimum speed of 25 words per minute (wpm) and a maximum of five (5) errors on a five-minute timed writing. 3. Demonstrate the ability to input, edit, save, retrieve, and print documents using Microsoft Word 2007. 4. Demonstrate knowledge of correct terminology, formatting techniques for documents, Microsoft Word 2007 operations, and proofreader's marks for editing documents. 5. Demonstrate the ability to input, edit, save, and print documents which include letters, memos, reports, and tables within a time limit using the computer and Microsoft Word 2007.
IX. EVALUATION AND MEASUREMENT OF COURSE COMPETENCIES All course competencies listed above must be accomplished with a minimum of 70 percent accuracy. Evaluation of course competencies will be made by the Instructor through: 1. Observation of in-class activities and work habits 2. Homework Assignments Lessons 1-50 are required. Lessons 51-60 are optional. Assignments are completed using the computer. Assignments will be graded for accuracy and completeness. Each drill or document omitted will be penalized fifteen points. Errors in following instructions will be penalized ten points each drill or document. Assignments may be returned with notation to correct and re-submit. Assignments returned with notation to correct and re-submit will be graded for accuracy and completeness. Late assignments will be accepted. Late assignments will be penalized fifteen points per class day. Assignments are due no later than date of test on that material. Keying errors will be penalized two point each error in Lessons 1-25, Keying and Formatting errors will be penalized three points each uncorrected error in Lessons 26-50. 3. Tests Tests are administered under controlled test conditions. Objective test will be graded for accuracy and completeness. Performance tests will be graded for accuracy and completeness. Performance tests will be completed using the computer. Late Objective and Performance tests will be penalized fifteen points per class day. Textbook, notes, or other help cannot be used during Objective and Performance Tests. 4. Three Best Five-Minute Timed Writings Five-minute timed writings will be graded on gross words a minute and accuracy according to the following scale: A 35-40 Gross Words A Minute with 0-2 Errors B 30-34 Gross Words A Minute with 0-5 Errors C 25-29 Gross Words A Minute with 0-5 Errors D 20-24 Gross Words A Minute with 0-5 Errors 5. Final Examination Final Examination will be graded for accuracy and completeness. Textbook, notes, or other help cannot be used during the Final Examination.
X. ATTENDANCE POLICY Attendance will be monitor through email and chat session with online students. If I do not hear from you within one week, you will be counted absence for one week! You must communicate with me through email and on line live discussions. XI. XII. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY Students may be subject to disciplinary proceedings resulting in an academic penalty or disciplinary penalty for academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating on a test, plagiarism, and collusion. For additional information, refer to the Student Code of Conduct in the San Antonio College Bulletin.
XIII. CHILDREN ON CAMPUS POLICY Students must not bring children into classes or labs and must not leave children unattended on campus.
XIV.
