WORD 2007 Instructor Policies and Course Specifics Instructor: Mrs. Mary W. Whitehead Course: POFI 2301, Word Processing: MS Word 2007
I. CATALOG DESCRIPTION Word Processing is instruction in the various aspects of a word processing software package. Emphasis is on the use of text editing features to produce business documents. This textbook provides students with the opportunity to learn word processing for employment purposes or home use and to utilize a microcomputer as a word processor. II. RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND Prerequisite: POFT 1329 or ability to type by touch at least 25 words per minute and basic computer knowledge.
Required Course Materials:
Method of Instruction: Lecture Notes, Homework Assignments will include reading assignments as well as Hands-on lab assignments. Students will be monitored for activity via online communication methods, such as, online discussion groups, email, and chat rooms. Please refer to the calendar of course events for more information. Attendance: Attendance is necessary to pass this course. Attendance will be monitored weekly via email or other communication methods. “A student absent the equivalent of two weeks of instruction in a regular semester may be dropped by the instructor.” Please consult the San Antonio College Catalog for details. Students with excessive absences will be automatically withdrawn from the course without any notification. It is your responsibility to drop this course if you are not able to complete requirements in a given time frame. You will be required to keep pace with homework and other assignments. Email me regularly and keep me posted on your progress with the course. If you decide to drop the course, please notify me via email. Homework and Computer Assignments: Homework and computer assignments will be sent to me as attachments in blackboard vista.. You must keep pace with the course calendar of events. You have one week from the due date to complete homework. Assignments will not be accepted after the one-week grace period. Late assignments will be deducted 1 point for every calendar day late. This course requires extensive hands-on computer assignments. The Alamo Community College District, including its affiliated colleges,

201 W. Academic Dishonesty: The full text of the policy may be found in the “Student Code of Conduct,” which is on pages 74-84 in the San Antonio College Catalog. The text reads, in part: “Students found guilty of an act of academic dishonesty may be subject to: (1) Academic penalty including one or more of the following when not inconsistent a. A requirement to perform additional academic work not
required of other students in the course (2) Corrective measures including any penalty, which may be imposed in a student disciplinary hearing pursuant to this Code of Conduct. Exams: Exams and quizzes will be administered online and in person. Please refer to the online calendar of course events for more information on exam dates and times. If you are unable to take the exam on site, notify me and I will make arrangements with one of the proctoring sites. On-site exams will be conducted in a lab environment. You must bring a valid picture ID. Exams are written questions and a hands-on portion. You will be allowed to use your textbooks and cd that came with the book. Make-up exams are available only for students with documented medical emergencies. You have to get approval from me in advance. Technology Failure/Software Assistance: During the course of the semester, due to unavoidable reasons your server may become inaccessible. If you are having technical problems, contact the Support Central Office at 220-1616 or send an email to helpdesk@mail.accd.edu. In addition, please notify me of all technical problems. System Status messages will also be posted @ http://www.accd.edu/district/is/systems/nwstat.htm. Due to technical problems, if I am unable to conduct an online communication session, I will reschedule the event; check the course calendar for alternate dates and times. During the semester, I will use the email application included within blackboard vista for communication. If you have technical problems with blackboard vista, you can contact me at mwhitehead@mail.accd.edu. Children on Campus Policy: As a student, you are eligible to use open computer labs on campus. However, students are urged not to bring children to either a class or a lab. Minors under the age of 12 must not be left unattended on campus. Individual instructors may include additional restrictions or waivers for their particular classrooms or labs. Course Expectations: You will be required to view the calendar of course events every week for assignments. Please be sure to follow date and time schedules. You will be asked to return both written and lab assignments as attachments in blackboard vistal. You are required to read each chapter before you attempt to take the chapter quiz. You will be quizzed after each chapter. If you diligently follow the course guidelines and complete all the required assignments, you will be adequately prepared to take the course exams. The calendar of events is subjected to change, make sure you refer to the calendar every week. Grading Scale: Final Grade: Each student’s final grade will be calculated as follows:
An online quiz will be given after each chapter. They will be T/F and Multiple Choice Questions.
NOTE: FINAL WILL BE ON CAMPUS OR AT A PROCTOR SITE! The final will consist of both--objective questions and projects. The projects are done on campus and theory online. The final is comprehensive. III. COURSE CONTENT A.

Create, print, and edit documents; format characters and use help, format paragraphs, documents and sections; maintain and print documents. B. Use writing tools; manipulate tabs, manipulate test within and between documents; format with special features; create headers and footers; create footnotes and endnotes. C. Merge documents; create and format tables; add borders and insert clip art; use Microsoft Draw and WordArt.
