DROPS/WITHDRAWALS

Students can drop a course prior to the census date online, with your instructor, or through the Admissions and Records office (FAC 216).  The course will not appear on a transcript.

After the census date, the following procedure applies:

  • First Time in College Students as of Fall 2007

The 80th Texas Legislature in the 2007 Legislative session passed SB1231 that limits the number of classes students can drop throughout their entire undergraduate career to six (6).

The legislation applies only to students who enroll for the first time in any Texas public college or university after graduating from high school or earning a GED. It begins with the Fall 2007 semester and is in effect every term thereafter. It does not apply to students who have been enrolled prior to Fall 2007.

Courses dropped after the census date at San Antonio College or any other public college or university will count towards the six (6) drop limit when transferred to another Texas public college or university.

There are a few exceptions regarding certain life circumstances that may allow a dropped class to “not count” towards the six (6) drop limit. Students can speak to a counselor regarding exceptions to the drop limit.

Students are required to speak their instructor before dropping a course. Students dropping all courses are required to speak to a Counselor.

  • All Other Students

A Single Course

Students wishing to withdraw from part of their classes should contact their instructor to withdraw them electronically.

All Courses

Students withdrawing from all courses should contact the Counseling Center (MLC 1st floor)  for an exit interview and submit the form(s) to the office of Admissions and Records (FAC 216).

  • Financial Aid Students

Regardless of when they first enrolled in any college the following applies:

Students on financial aid will owe money if they drop any course on/or before the census date.

Students on financial aid will owe money if they drop all courses before 60% of the semester is completed.

Students who owe financial aid money as a result of a past drop will be unable to obtain Financial Aid until the amount owed is paid. These students will be reported to the U.S. Department of Education.
