Based on the Core Curriculum at San Antonio College
Effective: August 21, 2006
The Office of Admissions and Records, in consultation with academic departments, will determine which IB courses will be accepted by San Antonio College (SAC) for advanced placement of IB students. SAC will accept a minimum of 24 credit hours for advanced placement if a student has obtained the IB diploma and received a grade of 4 or higher for each of the 6 IB courses. (Some students may receive more than 3 credit hours for an IB course). IB students who have received a grad of less than 4 for a course will not receive credit for that course. Students that have taken IB courses but have not obtained the IB diploma may still receive advanced placement for each course for which they received a grade of 4 or higher.
A minimum of 6 hours of college-level credits must be earned at SAC before the International Baccalaureate credits are awarded. Prior to students enrolling for college-level classes at SAC, all students must demonstrate proficiency in basic academic skills, as indicated in the Texas Success Initiative. Additionally, all students must take a minimum of 25% of all of their courses at SAC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Commission on Colleges). Furthermore, IB students should consult a counselor at SAC to determine the courses and credits that they will need for graduation. If students take more courses than what they need for graduation, their request for financial aid may be limited.
Non-native English speakers (NNESs) who have completed the IB program in Spanish or French will receive 24 or more hours credit for their IB courses if:
- the IB program sends original transcripts directly to SAC's Office of Admissions and Records.
- NNESs submit an official translation of their IB transcripts.
- the NNESs meet all requirements of the Texas Success Initiative.
NNESs that still need to acquire greater proficiency in English before they are ready for freshman-level academic coursework must take English as a Second or other Language (ESOL) courses and then meet the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative before credit is given for their IB courses. For more information about taking classes at SAC as an international student, please see SAC's International Student Services. For a breakdown credits go to advanced placement credit.
