        I.             Degree, Certificates or Concentration or Unit in Support of:

Associate of Arts in Architecture

 

      II.             Expected Program/Unit Learning Outcomes:

 

·        Students will be able to apply creative problem solving skills to Architectural design problems

·        Students will demonstrate knowledge of architecture history, theory, and practice in the solution of Architectural design problems in a global society

·        Students will be able to demonstrate freehand drawing, technical graphics, and model building skills in the solution of Architectural design problems

·        Students will be able to identify, formulate, and effectively communicate the critical issues involved in the solution of Architectural design problems

·        Students will be able to gain admittance to professional programs in accredited schools of Architecture or find employment in professional design offices

    III.       Measures of Program/Unit Learning Outcomes:


 

·         Project presentations, documentation, and models

·         Sketch books and other course assignments

·         Student Surveys

·         Student academic records (GPA, etc.)

·         Student Transfer and Retention Rates

·         Written Comprehensive Final Exam

A.     To ensure that our program/unit reaches these goals, our faculty members pursue the following outcomes:

·         Offer course work that gives students the foundation to study Architectural issues in greater depth.

·         Offer course work which requires creative problem solving

·         Offer course work which requires the student to develop the manual dexterity necessary to communicate ideas in graphic form

·         Create research and writing assignments that require students to articulate and develop professional writing skills, to locate appropriate primary and secondary sources efficiently in conducting architectural research and to quote and apply primary and secondary sources correctly, documenting and crediting research/sources

·        Develop Problem Based Learning (Collaborative Research Teams and Group Projects)

·        Institute Student Self Assessment

·        Maintain minimum standard (70%) for meeting course requirements 

 

 

B.    To achieve these program/unit outcomes, faculty members employ the following strategies:

 

·        Develop appropriate course content to engage students support claims in critical thinking, problem analysis, solution testing, and presentation.

·        Arrange content in appropriate patterns- abstract concepts, multivariable problems, realistic building programs- to build complex problem solving skills

·        Investigate the need for and appropriateness of developing internet courses—e.g. History of Architecture.

·        Add a global/international aspect to curriculum

·        Investigate the feasibility of locating a studio in another facility

·        Prepare a feasibility study for remodeling and/or reconfiguring existing space

·        Implement articulation agreements with the University of the Incarnate Word and Texas Tech University.
