Deaf and Hard of Hearing National Liaison

As Deaf Link’s National Liaison, I work on bridging the gap between the Hearing and Deaf cultures by creating awareness and a deeper appreciation for the communication needs of Deaf who relay on using their native language, American Sign Language (ASL) to effectively communicate.

I am a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) born to Deaf parents, ASL is my first language; I was born hearing but due to a head injury at the age of 5, my hearing has steadily decreased over the years causing me to rely more on ASL for the effective communication. Since I have some residual hearing and I’m fluent in ASL, this has helped me settle into the gift of bridging Hearing and Deaf cultures together. I work on advocating the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing by working with Federal, State and County based emergency services to establish ASL as the primary language for all emergency alerts.

As the liaison for Deaf Link and also a PGA golf instructor for Deaf / Hearing adults and children, this allows me an additional platform to inform Deaf and Hearing individuals about the increased access and importance of having information in ASL.
